Missing Tracks, Track order changed after Cubase 15 Pro V 15.0.6 crash Win 11 Laptop

I just ran into a very frustrating issue. I have been working on a project for the past 2 weeks.

I save a new version of my project using the CTRL, ALT S. This updates the current version number of the project that it saves. I do this whenever I have done some major work and after assuring that all of the tracks are playing back properly. I am up to version #58 on my current project.

The Project has 40 MIDI Tracks and 8 Omnivocal Tracks. Everything was there at last save.

Working on a few things during this last session, the mouse started to behave very erratically and was bouncing all over the screen all over the place. I saved the project and then re-booted the laptop.

When I opened my project again, to continue where I left off, there were sections with missing tracks that had been there before the crash. These were the Omnivocal Tracks. Although in the past I have had some missing MIDI tracks. I thought that somehow, I had accidentally deleted them.

The order of the Omnivocal tracks was changed as well.

To find the missing tracks, I opened up a previously working version of the project. I found that those same tracks that were missing in my current version were now also missing in previously-saved versions, even up to 2 weeks ago!

I am not sure if this is an issue with Cubase Pro 15 V.15.0.6 or if it also may happen in Cubase 14 Pro?

I am using Cubase 15 Pro strictly for the availability of Omnivocal.

Other things that I have noticed while working on earlier versions were that some of the midi tracks were offset by 1/32nd notes on the whole track. Also, the position at the first bar for the track was also offset, even though I hadn’t even done anything on that track….

Primarily, it seems to have started with the erratic mouse behaviour, moving all over the screen on its own, and then the issue starts.

I am thinking it might have to do with something in the Project management itself, since those missing tracks are now also missing in previously saved versions.

I don’t know if anyone else has experienced this, but, I find it to be a real problem, because now even previously saved versions are corrupt…

Thank you for your insight on this. I appreciate it.

I wonder if perhaps some sort of corruption is going on in your preferences. I’d make a copy of them, put them somewhere safe, and then delete the originals. You can always move the preferences back if trashing them doesn’t fix the issue.

Hi again, dangole,

I just did what you suggested with the User Preferences file. I also just updated the BIOS for my laptop.

I am hoping this will help. Thanks again for your suggestions about the Preference file possibly being corrupt.

Hi dangole,

Today I worked with Cubase for a good 4 hours non-stop and not one glitch! Your advice about the preferences seems to have done the trick. The updated BIOS might have also helped, but, between the two of those things, Cubase is running much more stable now for me.

Thanks again for your great advice!

Definitely could’ve been either one of those! Happy to help. :slightly_smiling_face:
