I have moved my Cubase Elements 10 system to a new computer and updated to Cubase Elements 14 at the same time. I use a Steinberg UR22MkII audio interface which when plugged in displays a continuous white glow indicating a good connection.
Now, however, when loading or setting up a new project from the hub, a “Missing Ports” message appears identifying the UR22 as the “Unmapped Ports” both for input and output.
Checking this out by going into Studio>Studio Set Up>VST System Link, the UR22 is not listed as an ASIO option in the drop down list albeit it is plugged in
I can hear old projects through the computers speakers but at a lower quality and I can’t record … any input through the UR22 ports is not registering
Note: with Cubase NOT launched but the UR22 connected to the computer, in SEttings>Audio the UR 22 is shown as the device
Has anyone any ideas.
Studio Setup/Audio System. Is where you set the audio driver.
Thanks Grim … yes I’ve already tried that but there’s no UR22MkII in there either … the only options are a Generic Low Latency ASIO driver and a Steinberg built-in ASIO driver which allows poor sound through the computer. I’ve seen other posts on the forum with many people having similar problems - is this something Steinberg/Cubase need to sort quickly - I can’t use the set up
Driver installed?
And latest firmware?
Thanks again Grim … this is a great help but I’ve had mixed results…
Downloaded/updated the driver and I now have the Yamaha Steinberg USB ASCI displayed in the audio devices which allows me access to the UR22mkII interface in audio system and VST system link. All my old recordings now play - thanks. However I can’t record anything. A message appears when launching to say the ‘microphone Array listedSma1’ is unmapped??? this is the computer’s built in microphone which I wouldn’t use. I can’t find where this is identified in Cubase … my input and output connections are now UR22mkII
I tried loading the firmware updater but the McKaffee software quarantined it as a threat. Could this be the case … the files in the firmware already exist on my computer although I don’t know if they’re up to date.
Am I out of my depth😄
Why can’t you record? Set track input to UR22 input and try it…what happens exactly?
I think a track input is selected as the onboard mic from when you didn’t have the UR driver installed or something, that’s why you get the message but it shouldn’t stop you recording.
Hiya Grim … just spent another 6 hours going over it and looking for inspiration - didn’t get any!
This is EXACTLY what happens …
Let’s assume I’m adding a guitar track to an existing recording (the same thing happens when I create a new project)…
- Launch Cubase 14
- A message pops up asking you to allow the app to make changes to your device > Yes. (Note: this never happened when launching Cubase 10)
- The hub screen loads>load the project you wish to add a track to
- Sometimes but not always a message box appears “Microphone Array Unmapped” > OK (this is the computer’s default built in microphone)
- The project screen appears; the audio system and VST System Link display Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO with UR22mkII as the device
- Create a new track for the project - track definition box in Audio, audio inputs mono in 2 (UR22mkII), configuration mono audio outputs - stereo out, name > add track
- Plug in guitar, adjust for satisfactory sound level in Studio>Mix Console; a blue sound bar moves up and down when the guitar is plucked and the sound comes through the monitors
- Press record and play the guitar; the the track recording area simply displays a progressing flat line rather than sound waves indicating it is not recording
- Playback confirms this
I have compared various Cubase 14 screens with its compatible working Cubase 10 screens and noted some, probably significant, differences - particularly in the Mix Console screen. Here, in the bottom middle display, are 5 sections in both 14 and 10 which show different characteristics when the guitar is played:
Extreme left (stereo in) - in Cubase 10, nothing happens here; in Cubase 14 the blue sound bar moves up and down as does the indicator in the bottom RH corner of the project screen
2nd left (mono in 2, UR22mkII) - the blue sound bar moves up and down in Cubase 10 but no movement in 14
3rd left (mono in 1, UR22mkII) - no movement in either
4th left (guitar) - blue sound bar moves up and down in 10 but nothing in 14
Extreme right (stereo out) - blue sound bar moves up and down in 10 but nothing in 14
Comparing the audio connections in both, whereas the Outputs are the same (device - Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO, device ports UR22mkII output 1/L and out 2/R), the inputs are different. In Cubase 10, in the bus name column, stereo in left and right, the audio device and device port are ‘Not connected’ whilst in Cubase 14 these are Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO in the audio device with UR22mkII inputs 2and 1 respectively. If I change this to ‘Not connected’ to match Cubase 10, then the blue sound bar in the extreme left hand column no longer moves up and down, the same as cubase 10. In this case, there would be no blue sound bar movement at all in Cubase 14 Mix Console.
However, in Cubase 10, presumably to make it work, below the Stereo In lines in the bus column which are not connected, are Mono in 2 (UR22mkII input2) and Mono in 1 (UR22mkII input 1) with the audio device named as Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO with device ports with device ports UR22mkII inputs 2 and 1 respectively.
I suspect the problem lies somewhere herein but I’m now too knackered to think any further.
Do you think there’s a simple adjustment needed here
Thanks again for your advice
This is a lot of text to take in and you seem to be describing pictures that aren’t available.
Post these two screencaps please. C14 only.
- Audio connections inputs
- Track inspector showing the input selection
Hiya Grim … yeh, it was a bit of a titherum wasn’t it, sorry about that. I think in a nutshell what I’d concluded was the fault was somewhere in the audio inputs.
I’ve spent today looking at that and found a few inconsistencies within the various interface device port options - how this happened, who knows! Anyway I’ve rationalised all these and … hallelujah… it works! I can now record and playback.
Thanks a million, mate, for the help you’ve given … if you could now just tell me how to play the guitar like Hendrix and the keyboard like Jools Holland, that would be great cheers
No problem…you just play the guitar with your teeth/tongue so you have a hand left over for the piano.
… I’ll give it a go
