MixConsole Settings Limitations: Why can't we save mutes and solos?

I believe people have offered their opinions on this before but are there any Steinberg official statements on this?

You can’t save mutes are solos in the Snapshots. So if I need to hear a mix in which I just listen to several tracks, I can’t just solo them and save as a Snapshot. I have to manually turn down the volume of every other track. It’s put me in a position where I just don’t use this feature at all (which is actually one of the big features I wanted when I moved over to this software from Ableton)

Any official reasons for this limitation? Studio One provides this option.

There was a (IMHO rather lame) suggestion for a workaround from Steinberg in this thread, but that’s the only response I’ve seen. I’ve never heard of anybody actually using this feature since it’s not very useful without mutes and solos.

Okay. So there may currently not be any documented “reason”? It seems like such a big oversight that I assumed it was an intentional design decision.

Solo is for listening, not for mixing!

MetaGrid Pro (MGP) has snap shots. But setting it up would be a fair it of work. You would need to create Solo and Mute buttons in MGP for every channel in Cubase you want to Solo/Mute with a CC#xx 127 for On and CC#xx0 for Off. And then in the MIDI Remote assign the CC used in all those buttons to Solo/Mute each channel with a toggle. I’m on Cubase 10.5 so I do it in the Generic Remote. But I assume the MIDI Remote Editor can do this. Then in MGP you assign ‘Snap Shot 1’ to every Solo and Mute button, set the buttons to what ever state you want and then capture it with a long press of one of the Snap Shot buttons. Snap Shots work with faders too which is very cool.

That’s interesting but I’m.actually just hoping that Steinberg will chime in and explain.

I’ve posted this on the other thread but as a workaround I’ve been experimenting with using cue sends as on/off for different channels on a cue mix, and saving different configurations as different snapshots of the same cue mix… It’s clunky but seems to function, interested in others’ views

I think Steinberg just needs to tell us their reason for excluding it. It seems intentional at this point.
