Mixer volume and audio interface setting when recording?

Still a beginner in recording in Cubase. What is a good setting for the mixer and audio interface setting when recording? I am only working with VST instrument tracks, no live instruments and use an audio interface for my headphones. I did some recording but ended up with something with which I kept on changing the audio interface volume knob, not a good way to get a balanced mix, I think.

So during the recording phase, should I leave all the mixer sliders simply on - 6 or so? And should I take the DBMeter into consideration during recording or is this something I look at during the mixing phase?

Hi,

While recording, you can set the fader so that you can hear yourself (the recorded track) well. Recorded MIDI data are not affected, same as the incoming Audio signal wouldn’t be affected by the fader.
