Well, until the moment there’s an “Avoid collisions” toggle on playing techniques (as has been requested in the past) I will indeed keep occasionally abusing staff text for that purpose.

For what it is worth, (having just tried entering “espressivo”) I think it would be worth considering to change the function name to “Dynamics Expression” and just let us put in any text that would have a consistent font, and the “standard” dynamics, like f or pp would be formatted accordingly.
