Monitor Seemingly Not Passing Live MIDI Data

Hi.

I have a track setup to receive MIDI from a defined input and pass it to a defined output. Though I see the data arriving, it does not go back out.

Here is a picture:

This is Cubase 14, on Windows 11.

I have routed and played live MIDI many times in the past, but picking up with Cubase again after a detour away from it (and after updating to Cubase 14) I don’t seem to be able to make it work.

Am I overlooking a setting? Is there perhaps a bug?

Thanks to anyone who can advise me on why I’m not getting the expected result here.

Hi,

Double-check the Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Filter, please. By default, only the SysEx data filter is enabled for both the Record and Thru.

What kind of MIDI Port is the loopMIDI DAW? Isn’t it any kind of virtual loopback MIDI Port?

Hi Martin, thanks for your reply.

Here is a picture of Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Filter.

This means I should see everything except SysEx, yes?

The port, ‘loopMIDI DAW to KMo’ is indeed a virtual port, provided by loopMIDI. I have extensive experience with loopMIDI and it’s ports, which have a history here of working very well. So, unless Cubase has changed it’s treatment of non-actual-harware ports, I don’t think that itself should be an issue(?).

Hi,

This setup is correct. It means you should see all but SysEx.

Do you know, that the loopback MIDI Port is really a loopback, so it sends the data from the In into the Out of the given port?

Could you add a MIDI Insert > MIDI Monitor? Can you see the MIDI Data in the Monitor?

OK, added MIDI Monitor to the inserts. Played the Linnstrument and saw activity on the input of the track, but saw no action on the MIDI Monitor.

re: loopMIDI - Yes, I’m aware of what it is and does. Been using it for years to drive my KARMA Motif software. One must be careful not to attach a loopMIDI port to both the input (explicitly, or via All Ins) and output sides of a track, else you will get a MIDI loop.

Current mystery here is missing MIDI data (rather than too much!).

Is this perhaps relevant? I configured this at one point in the past to deal with the MPE data generated by the Linnstrument.

However, I don’t see why it should affect routing. (?)

I just tried with a different non-MPE keyboard and the same issue is observed - no pass-thru of live playing data.

Hi,

The track is Muted… Isn’t this the problem?

Is the Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Thru Active option enabled on your side, please?

Thanks again Martin for your response(s).

Good eye re: the mute, but no, that is not the problem. (Just an imperfection in the picture I posted!) IOW, making sure the Mute is not On does not solve it.

OK, yes!

Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Thru Active option was Off,
Turning it on and clicking Apply solved the problem.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
