This is an appeal to anybody out there who has already tried creating Mountain Dulcimer TAB or TAB-and-notation projects (in Dorico 3) and could share any gotchas or other advice they may have come up with so far. Please send me a PM if you would. I’d like to compare notes.
My own dulcimer is completely chromatic in the first octave, which is NOT the norm. I would particularly be interested in hearing from anyone who has done D3 work for diatonic instruments that have only the 6 and 1/2 fret or that one plus the 0 and 1/2 (in addition to the totally diatonic Myxolydian standard frets), but anyone with any other fret arrangement is welcome to write, also.
Len,
Did you get any answers, or come up with any solutions? I’ve successfully made the dulcimer tab for DAD but have to override any 6 to make it a 6+ for my freinds who like to see the 6+. For that I would like a solution that is better than creating a white text box, using a similar font and placing it overtop the 6.
I reconfigured the mountain dulcimer instrument for my own use to represent the original DAD tuned instrument to give a G major scale. I then have to dump each song into a PDF program to overwritw the question marks Dorico produces on unrecognized notes into 6+ or (in some arrangements) 1+ notation (using Lato Bold fonts).
Thanks. What I’ve been doing is this… for one where it can’t figure out a valid tab (when it puts the question mark) or for when I want to override it with a 6+… these are my written instructions… You will find them in the word document I uploaded. Dorico Pro Lead Sheet Instructions.pdf (83.2 KB)

Make it Calibri, 12 pt, Bold with a white backround to match the dulcimer tab.
If a tab number needs to move up or down a line use N (up) or M (down)
I’ve uploaded “Pancho and Lefty” as an example that had a “6” in the dulcimer tab and I used the instructions above to put a “6+” over top of it. … works, but was hoping for a more automatic… when the tab is a “6” use a “6+”… Pancho and Lefty - D.dorico (948.5 KB)
