I’ve just updated to Cubase Pro 15 and noticed that the mouse wheel behaviour has been inverted (scrolling/zoom direction works the opposite way). After years using Cubase, this is quite uncomfortable due to muscle memory.
I can only find a setting for horizontal scrolling, which doesn’t fix it. In Cubase Pro 14 (which installation I´ve kept) everything works normally, so it seems specific to version 15.
Is there any way to restore the previous mouse wheel behaviour?
Thank you for the replies. The issue I’m experiencing is specifically related to mouse wheel zoom. I have Cubase 14 and Cubase 15 installed side by side, on the same system, so I tested both versions under the exact same conditions. These are the results:
Cubase Pro 14 (expected behaviour) Project Window:
Wheel forward → zoom in
Wheel backward → zoom out
Editors (Key Editor, Audio Editor, etc.):
Wheel forward → zoom in
Wheel backward → zoom out
Scrolling:
Shift + wheel forward → scroll left
Shift + wheel backward → scroll right
Cubase Pro 15 (changed behaviour) Project Window:
Wheel forward → zoom in → now zooms out
Wheel backward → zoom out → now zooms in
Editors:
Wheel forward → zoom in → now zooms out
Wheel backward → zoom out → now zooms in
Scrolling:
Shift + wheel forward → scroll left
Shift + wheel backward → scroll right (this part behaves the same as in C14)
So the horizontal scroll option works as expected, but the zoom direction itself is reversed in Cubase 15 compared to Cubase 14.
This behaviour feels very counter-intuitive after many years of using Cubase.
Is this an intentional change? And is there any way to revert the zoom direction?
After much testing, I have found the guilty party. Although it works perfectly with C14, the mouse wheel on my Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000 reverses its operation in C15. First, I tried a wired mouse, which worked correctly. Then I connected a wireless Logitech mouse, which also works perfectly. So, there has been some change between versions 14 and 15 that affects how these Microsoft controllers interact.
The Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000 uses Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center for settings, allowing you to customize mouse buttons, pointer speed, scroll settings, and program “My Favorites” keys on the keyboard for apps/files, plus control media/hotkeys for calculator, mail, etc., with features like spill resistance on the keyboard.
I found out that, even after uninstalling it from my system, some components of Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center were still interfering with the mouse wheel behavior. It seems that some kind of filter driver remained after the uninstallation.
I then used Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter to remove any remaining components from that installation, and it worked. After completely uninstalling Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center, the mouse wheel behavior in Cubase 15 returned to normal.
Is the implication then that installing C15 changed how another program (The Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center) operated, possibly corrupting it (this question is not necessarily directed at you, @Aprositus ) ?
Not at all. As I said earlier, the mouse behaviour in C14 remained the same as always, as did the rest of the system after installing Cubase 15. It could be related to some change in the C15 code at a deeper level.
I’m having the same problem with Ctrl-mouse wheel direction being reversed in Cubase 15 only. I use MS Mouse & Keyboard Center for other things on my laptop. I don’t want to uninstall it just because Cubase 15 doesn’t work correctly with it when all other apps do. Is there a better solution than removing a different program?
Afaik, MS Mouse & Keyboard Center can be configured for individual settings across different applications. Shouldn’t it be capable to assign specific (proper) mouse behaviour to perform when a particular program (Cubase) is active?
Per-app configuration is pretty limited, just assigning actions to 4 buttons. No per-app config for wheel scrolling.
I found that if I turn off Flick in the Wheel Setting window of MS-M&KC it works properly in Cubase 15. This is a system-wide setting, but it’s better than completely uninstalling M&KC.
