I’ve been playing with the stage template and live stage functionality this week and it confuses me immensely what relationship stage templates have with expression maps (where the toggle currently lives). I do understand that the setting filters down to the instruments that the expression map is applied to, but that really doesn’t have anything to do with the spatial positioning of the audio output.
Consider a VSTi that has five instruments/patches loaded (midi ch 1-5), I have piccolo (in midi 1; audio output: ch-1/2) flutes 1-3 (in ch 2-4; output: ch-3/4) and alto flute (in ch-5.; output ch-5/6). I set the endpoint to have 3 outputs and label the mixer strips: Piccolo, Flute, A. Flute. Live stage shows me all 5 instruments when in reality there are only 3 audio streams.
Long story short… I think the toggle belongs on the mixer strip to better reflect the perceived (or even expected) behavior. Dorico can’t know that I have 3 individual flutes routed to 1 output channel and I don’t believe it should (or even can). Hence, having the ability to toggle the space template should be on the mixer strip – like MIR.
Thanks
