I’m finally moving from my faithful Windows 7 desktop to a new Windows 11 machine.
Although I will likely upgrade from my current Dorico 3.5 to the newest version, for the time being I would like to simply install Dorico 3.5 on the new computer.
My Dorico 3.5 uses the eLicenser dongle, and is also registered with Steinberg online.
Any tips on how to move Dorico 3.5 to the new computer? For example, should I update the eLicenser version (mine is 6.12.10) prior to the move, or will installing Dorico 3.5 on the new computer automatically re-install the earlier eLicenser version?
Thanks, Arco!
I was aware of the change scheduled for May, and I (hope) dealt with that by making sure my Steinberg licenses are also stored at My Steinberg (or whatever it’s now called).
Thanks, too, for the link to the eLicenser help page.
What I need to learn is whether I should download and install the newest version of the eLicenser Control centre now (i.e., on my Windows 7 computer), or do so after moving to the new computer.
Also relevant: whether that will be impossible after May 20.
Hi @thinkingMusic.ca , you just install Dorico 3.5 to your new Win 11 machine using the Steinberg Download Assistant. During installation of the Download Assistant already the latest eLicenser will get installed along anyway. Once done, you simply insert your dongle, start Dorico 3.5 and it should just work.
Regarding the May deadline, that affects only the registration of new eLicenses, which will not be possible after that any more. But you have your license already on your dongle, and so that will continue to work as normal.
Do I need the Download Assistant if I have the installer saved on my Windows 7 machine, and can - hopefully - simply install it onto the new Windows 11 computer? (I vaguely remember having had trouble with the Download Assistant when I originally bought and downloaded 3.5, many years ago. . .)
I’m also guessing that the Steinberg Download Assistant will download 3.5 all over again, in which case I’ll have to search for all the custom key commands and other settings I’ve created over the years in my existing 3.5 — unless there’s an automated ‘migration’ feature in Dorico.
If you still have the Dorico 3.5 installer, then you can use that.
Regarding your custom key commands and settings. There is no migration tool or so. But you can do that yourself easily. In File Explorer type into the address bar
%appdata%\Steinberg\Dorico 3.5
and hit the Return/Enter key. At that location you’ll find the files
keycommands_en.json and preferences.xml which you simply copy to the same location on your new computer.
