Moving elements horizontally in Engrave @iPad

Hey folks,

I bought the full version of Dorico for my iPad to access the Engrave mode. Moving items vertically (the staff) works. However, when I select the boxes to move horizontally, such as individual notes, items or bar lines, nothing happens. Am I missing something?

Cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim, note spacing handles can’t be dragged I’m afraid, you need to use an external keyboard for those.

What are you trying to achieve? Perhaps using Note Spacing changes would give the result you’re after?
Normally, moving stuff in Note Spacing is rarely necessary.

For example, if there is enough space, I would like to have 4 bars in a line and not 3 or 5. This gives me a better overview of the composition.

To achieve this, I just wanted to move the bar lines a little in the hope that the notes will move closer together . Then I would have 4 bars in one line and a complete theme in two lines. That would be very clear.

Is this possible in any way?

Cheers,
Tim

Use System Breaks! You won’t change the number of bars on a system by sliding things.

If you want to have 4 bars per system along the whole layout go to Layout Options>Staves and Systems>Casting off>Fixed number of bars per system and set it to 4.

Also please note that when you change note spacing manually, Dorico actually does the opposite of what you were expecting: it adds manual system breaks on either side of the line you’re editing, to prevent the music from jumping around. When I occasionally want more or less space in a particular spot, I usually delete those system breaks after making my edits.
