I need to slightly move the placement of some items in parts, such as text and rehearsal letters, without it affecting the position of those same items in the score. How do I accomplish that? Also, on this topic, how do I hide items in the parts, but keep them in the score, and vice-versa? (Perhaps there’s a way, when creating an item/text in the score, where you can specify that the item only appear in the score?) Thank you.
Before you do any editing, you need to make sure that the Properties Scope is set to Local rather than Global.
See below for more info and how to:
No, I don’t believe that this is possible. Items need to be hidden after being entered.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Regarding hiding an item after it’s created, how do I do this? I didn’t notice that option in the Properties panel. Nevermind, just found it in the Properties panel.
Sometimes the Hide property will only be available in Engrave mode. In rare cases it might not be available at all.
If that doesn’t help, what object are you not able to locate the Hide toggle?
I did find it. In my score, the first 12 bars are for solo instrument, so I hid the other instruments. On the next full system, I wanted the instruments to be listed on the left of each staff. Since this is written for a guitar quartet, all I needed to create was the number. I don’t need that in the parts.
There was recently a thread about hiding items in scores vs parts and I can’t remember if this is possible:
Make sure the scope is set to Global, hide the text. This will hide it everywhere.
Now, go to the score, set the scope to Local and then turn the hide toggle off.
Does this work? Or does it still unhide everywhere?
This calls for a System Break.
Select that System Break and down in the Property Panel let the Staff Titles be shown, may be the short version.
In Setup Menu edit all four guitars to show a number as short version of the instrument name.
I don’t want the numbers to show on all systems, only the first full system.
Perhaps you can add another System Break when you don’t want the labels anymore and turn them off?
@SRAM i was trying to answer your object-hiding question and I didn’t consider to mention this particular function for your case.
That’s no problem.
In Layout Options choose not to show any names.
Then at that very special case select the System Break flag, go down to the Property Panel… (as explained above).
This is great, thanks. I already hid the numbers in the parts via Property Panel, so I’ll implement hiding the abbreviated names via system breaks in the next score. I appreciate your help.
I notice in all my parts at the same place, a multi-measure rest is missing. Is there a way to force this? (Since this is a new topic, should I create a new topic?)
Yes, usually. Since it could be related to this topic maybe it’s ok to leave here. Can you please upload a cut-down project for us to check. It’s likely something to do with hidden objects.
I’d be happy to. What exactly is a cut-down project?
Just remove any bars/music that is unnecessary and apply the Silence Playback Template. These will both reduce the file size.
Feel free to just upload the whole project if you wish but it needs to be under a certain size (I can’t remember).
mm. 46-54 - part.pdf (65.3 KB)
mm. 46-54 - score.pdf (252.6 KB)
I’m wondering if these two attachments might be more helpful than sending you a cut-down project. Bars 50-51 is the region where the multi-bar rest should be appearing. Notice in the score the 12/8 time signatures that appear not only in the preceding system, but also appearing both bars 50 and 51. Bars 50 and 51 should indeed be in 12/8, but not sure why it’s appearing again in each bar. No doubt, it’s something I did, since I changed the time signature there from 4/4 to 12/8. Anyway, I’m sure this is the problem. If you can give me instructions on how to fix the time signature issue in bars 50-51, I think we’ll be good. (I left the signposts in just in case these are contributing to the problem.)
Except for also suggesting that you post your project (that would save everybody’s time, also your owns), select the time signature and press backspace/delete.
Again, and as @k_b mentioned, posting the project is always better than a screenshot.
In any case, there definitely should be a time signature at bar 50, as well as the cautionary one at the end of the previous system.
Deleting the time signature in bar 51 should do the trick. If it doesn’t, personally I would need the file to explore so I can be of any more help.
Actually, there definitely should NOT be a time signature at m. 50, or a courtesy time signature at the previous measure because the time signature hasn’t changed. That’s the whole point I was making. The only meter change in this region is at m. 52 (4/4) and then back to 12/8 at m. 54. All the other 12/8 time signatures should be unnecessary, unless somehow they represent a different rhythmic interpretations. For instance, the 12/8 time signature I inserted, shows it to be 3+3+3+3, 4 beats of triplet 8th notes. Perhaps some of the others have a different rhythmic/beat representation. If that is the case, they are, in essence, different meters, and would explain why the part will not create a multi-bar rest at bars 50-51. After deleting the items before m. 46 and after 55, I noticed more successive 12/8 bars at m. 56-57, and a 12/8 signpost at m. 79. These did not appear to be present beforehand, although they may have been hidden. That signpost, clarifying that the 12/8 at m. 79, is 3+3+3+3, would also imply that the previous 12/8 is not. Thanks in advance for problem-solving this!
