Mp3-export

WaveLab 13.0.10 adds silence at the beginning of an audio file, exported as mp3-file.

Exports as wave-file have correct length.

‘Bypass Master Section’ also helps to keep original length.

WaveLab 13.0.00 worked correctly, I guess.

Anybody else?

How much time are you referring to? mp3 and most lossy formats add some silence padding at the start by nature.

That said, WaveLab has an option deep in the mp3 encoding settings that may help you:

I just checked a set of deliverables that I have just done for a project … the mp3 320 kbps is the same length as the 16/44.1 and 24/48 tracks?

The mp3 was rendered through a batch processor.

Thank you Justin.

402 ms silence added, even some noise at 29 ms.

Advanced settings did not help. Tested all variations.

It worked before 13.0.10 update, I just checked it again.

Might be more a bug, then a setting, I am sorry to say.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

It must be some plugins reporting incorrect latency. Do you get the same result when no plugins are involved?

For various reasons, I always bake in my full montage plugin processing in one long continuous render before rendering the WAVs and mp3 of each song/track.

I just checked a bunch of recent renders and my 320kbps mp3s are the same length (down to the millisecond) as the WAV files.

Then that means you have a plug-in that is causing your problem.

Any plugins that are for ambience or reverb can cause this problem. Suggest rederring the file before exporting it…FWIW

Regarding the added noise at the beginning of rendered files:
I usually “flush” the buffers before rendering and never render a file that starts with sound.
Always add some silence at the beginning. Cut it out later, after rendering.

For “flushing” just place the cursor at the beginning of the silent part and press Play once or twice not letting any sound commence.
Then, and only then, render.

That usually ensures an absolutely silent start on files.
Then, cut the excess silence from the start.

Also, after rendering, always leave some margin between beginning of file and beginning of sound.
I leave about 300ms.

Thank you Justin, PG1 and …

The HQ-mode of my SSL Native Channel Strip 2 - plugin makes the difference.

Switch it off = no silence added by mp3-export.

Good times.

All the more reason to bake in your plugin processing first before rendering to all the final master files/formats.

Then you can inspect the render for plugin bugs or in some cases, avoid the bugs by doing the montage render in one full pass instead of cold starts and hard stops.

Sometimes people think I’m crazy for doing it this way until they find a plugin quirk or bug that is solved by doing this way.
