Multed track pops/decibel surges

I have multed some of my audio tracks so I could apply different eq settings at different parts of the song. However, I discovered today that as the parts cut in and out, there are pops/surges in volume - I’m guessing because the compressor doesn’t have any preceding audio to refer to, so when the audio is starting and stopping at the multed parts, the compressor is kicking in really hard, or there is some other issue with the plug-ins.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this? Maybe I should have used automation instead, but I’m trying to figure out if there’s a way to make my current setup work without having to start over. Is there a way to insert some kind of non-audible filler or something at the silent parts so the compressor doesn’t kick in so hard?

Send the parts to a group track and move the compressor to there?

That way it’s compressing the full multed signal.

There’s usually a way to work with what’s in Cubase - it has so many functions there’s almost always a way to get out of a hairy situation. Thanks for the tip.
