Multi instrument player 'condensing' issue

I’m working on a piece where instruments and singers alternate between passages with determined pitch and passages with indeterminate pitch. I notate these using standard five-line staves for the pitched sections and single-line staves for the unpitched ones. Whenever a player moves from determined to undetermined pitch, the staff switches from a standard staff to a single-line staff, and vice versa. I’ve set this up by assigning each player multiple “instruments”: their usual instrument on a standard staff, plus a custom version of the same instrument using a single-line staff.

This works perfectly for the soprano (except for the few missing rests, but that’s expected and I can fix it manually). However, it doesn’t seem to work for the piano. I would expect the “Strings” staff to switch from a five-line staff to a single-line staff as needed, but instead both staves remain visible. I’m honestly at a bit of a loss.

Has anyone run into this before or have suggestions on how to handle it? Example attached.

Hi @matt_eo, even if I am not 100% clear about your setup, I found that creating a new Empty-handed Player and dragging the Keys instrument into it, gives you the probably desired result:
