Multi timbral assigning

Hi. I’ve just bought the juno ds 61. I am running cubase elements 12.
From what I have seen, I should be able to run 16 different sounds from the juno (multi timbral), on my cubase. Many years ago I was doing this with my roland jv 30 successfully in the performance mode.
I can’t find ANY instructions anywhere on how to assign separate channels on Cubase to separate sounds on the Juno. I can’t even find performance mode on the juno. I know that tx and rx have something to do with it.
Please help. I will also post this in the Roland forums.
It’s a long-shot asking this but thanks anyway.

Hi,

Do you mean 16 MIDI Channels?

Yes. To be able to create 16 midi channels and asign them the sounds from the keyboard. I know it’s do able as I said I’ve done it many years ago. I just can’t remember how to get in and what to activate on the keyboard and in cubase etc.
By the way thank you for your time you seem to be the only one responding to my posts🙏

Hi,

On the keyboard, activate the multi-timbral mode (maybe named Multi?).

In Cubase add 16 MIDI Tracks at once. Cubase sets the MIDI Channels automatically.

OK I will try when I get home. At work now Perth Western Australia so the time difference is not good for your advice :expressionless: So once I set the midi tracks up I’ll need to know how to assign each individual voice or sound to them. Awesome. thank you very much it’s coming together slowly.

Someone from YouTube. No explanation though

Hi,

I believe, there is a YouTube video.

On the screenshot, this is the MIDI Channel, you have to set from 1 to 16, to make sure, you are sending the data to the channels 1 to 16. But as I said, if you add the tracks at once, Cubase will prepare it for you.

Thank you so much for your help once again. I am now up and running with 16 midi tracks from the Juno DS keyboard. I went into Studio set up and selected the Juno as the interface (midi INPUTS) so when I completed all of the midi tracks, I then recorded them onto individual audio tracks in cubase. Then I changed the studio set up to the UR44 interface to be able to add my audio tracks e.g. microphone, guitar etc. ( If I need to add, or redo a midi part, I simply do it again, or adjust the old midi part, and re-record an audio track of it). I am able to record VST instruments from either interfaces set up. It’s a pity I can’t run two interfaces simultaneously in Cubase, unless you know how.
Thanks once again for your valuable input

Here are my four screens ‘in project’ operation. One of them has expanded channel views as well as closed. The top seven are ‘audio in’ from the UR44. The next two are VST. The next 16 are MIDI from the keyboard. The last 16 are audio (.wav) tracks from each recorded Midi track, ready for export.

I have set 16 different sounds from the Juno and saved it under “USER 1” as RELAXATION O.

-I can save 128 user settings so I don’t think I will run out of combinations any time soon!

Also, I have discovered that I can use the Roland A49 controller keyboard, to control the JUNO DS.

Thank you Martin for your ever helpful advice and guidance
