Multiple Condensing/Instrumentation Options Across Flows

Hi, there! I am working writing out the short musical excerpts from Frank Ticheli’s Making Music Matter and I thought it would be a good exercise in me learning how to use flows really well.

A few issues I’m having:

  • When condensing, I made custom condensing groups (Flute, oboe, bells, for example). However, they won’t get into the same line.
  • I also did it with A. Sax and B. Sax. They went into the same line, but you can see the octave jump, but as you can see in the screenshot, they only have the notes on one line.
  • I have each excerpt as one flow, but many of them require different instrumentation (which I have in my layouts, especially for percussion), but some also have different condensing options.

I’ve attached the first excerpt as well as my Dorico file. Any help would be appreciated!

What do you mean? I didn’t delete it….

I deleted my post. I think the problem is that the bells sounds 2 octave higher than written, and since they are below the flute and oboe, you have to enable unlimited pitch crossing under Notation Options->Condensing. Or if you move the Bells on top, and redo the bells, flute, oboe condensing group, it will look like this. I’m not sure you can get the result from your reference score without transsposing the bells down 2 octaves, but then it will sound wrong and the bells part will be wrong. Maybe someone else knows. Also, you can add condensing changes when needed.

I guess that’s unfortunate, but it makes sense! Perfection in Dorico will just take time!
