Dorico Diagnostics.zip (1.3 MB)
Working on a collection with multiple short flows (currently 8 but intend on about 25 total). When adding tempo markings on a new flow, Dorico has crashed multiple times. Attached is most recent Diagnostic report set. Seems to either be a bug or something with macOS 15 Sequoia although I hadn’t really tried creating a document with a large number of flows prior to updating to Sequoia. 2021MBP M1 Pro 16GB using Garritan Personal Orchestra 5 and Vienna Symphony Rieger Concert Organ for playback. Dorico 5.1.
Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
My Macbook Pro offers me an upgrade to macOS 15. Normally I am quite fast with upgrading, but this time I remembered, that Dorico might not be a 100% tested or compatible yet, so I refrained from upgrading.
@k_b are you saying it is related to macOS upgrade? There appears to be a post from a couple of years ago that states it was a known issue awaiting resolution. I’m not really seeing a correlation to macOS 15. It only occurred in a document with several flows.
Kent, I was referring to this blog from September 16th:
Can you supply a document that causes the crash?
Unfortunately I cannot as it is work under contract. It happens sporadically and I am unable to specifically reproduce the steps to make it happen. I’ve just started saving prior to starting a new flow. Even autosave every 2 minutes (my setting) has not really been working at that frequency as the last autosave prior to the last crash created a recovered document that was at least 15 minutes old. For now, it has stopped. The only thing I have changed is, like I stated previously, that I am saving the project prior to adding a tempo to a new flow.
I’d suggest removing the Vienna Symphony VST from your setup. Or at least delete the instance of it in the project file.
A lot of crashes are caused by third-party plug-ins. ARIA is pretty stable, however.
Thanks. I guess I will start following that. Never-the-less, other not trying to use Quick Look, none of the other issues mentioned in that article occurred after upgrading to Sequoia in regard to my systems. We’ll see how it all shakes out but I was under the understanding that Dorico didn’t really advise not to upgrade macOS but I was probably wrong.
It’s the Vienna Great Rieger Organ Player and I cannot remove it as it is integral to the work being completed. I did switch to Garritan Classic Pipe Organ after the second crash but it didn’t make a difference so I went back to the Vienna Great Rieger Organ Player.
I don’t know about your general procedure, but if you choose the standard Dorico playback template and finish all your notation until it’s perfect, then at the end reapply your VSL Rieger organ playback template. This way a possible crash would not affect the notation itself.
