Multiple speaker monitors and headphones, etc

I use both Cubase and Dorico regularly. I have two different pairs of monitor speakers and a headphone send. In cubase, I can easily route everything through the control room and toggle between speakers with the touch of a button. Are there any plans to have something like control room in Dorico? It’s fatiguing to always listen on my big speakers and at night I often need to just use headphones, so hoping for a streamlined solution. Thanks!

Hmm…wouldn’t Steinberg’s ‘Immerse Virtual Studio’ plugin for headphones work if inserted into the master stereo output in Play?

I’m thinking of checking this out myself, as I usually get a ‘’…hey!..use your headphones!..we’re trying to sleep!" from the wife and daughter.

Have used Sonarworks Reference for several years, but I would only trust a final mixdown when listening to my actual studio monitors.

I’m sure Steinberg does it just as well if not even better! Will be looking into this.

I elected to do the switching with hardware instead. There are several monitor controllers available that allows selecting different speakers or only sending to headphones. Mackie Big knob might be a typical example.

Me too. I use the SPL Marc One as my DAC / monitor controller / headphone amp and it’s a great little piece of gear! It can control 2 sets of monitors and 1 pair of headphones. There’s a toggle right on the front to allow you to switch between monitors, or just turn them off completely and use headphones. It also allows you to mix between an analog input and USB, so if you have a keyboard or other instrument with onboard sounds, you can mix it directly with your computer’s USB output without requiring another mixer in the path.

If you don’t need the DAC, the SPL Control One is almost the same thing minus the DAC, and the SPL 2Control is a monitor controller that allows for 3 sets of monitors and 2 pairs of headphones. The Drawmer CMC2, CMC3, and Heritage Audio RAM 1000 all look pretty great too, although having the headphone jack in the back on the Heritage could be a drawback depending on your setup.

Yeah, certainly lots of hardware options out there. I’m choosing to use what I have. I’m running through an Apollo 16 and so I rerouted my patch bay so that I’m using the Apollo console for switching instead of the Cubase control room. Works fine. Thanks all!
