Multiple versions in one project file?

Hello,
I switched to Dorico from Sibelius a few years ago and the only thing I miss from Sibelius is the ‘edit versions’ function. This allows you to create multiple versions of your project in the same file, like track versions in Cubase. It would copy your existing project into a new version, allowing you to make changes while keeping the original and any other versions untouched and easily accessible. I found it extremely helpful when I wanted to try something different (with the whole project or just a few bars) without needing to Undo a bunch if I don’t like it, and at the same time preserve the new idea if I want to revisit it. It also allowed me to keep a nice chronological log of my re-writes.

Does Dorico have any function like that? If so, I can’t find it. I tried using Flows for this purpose but it’s too much clutter for me. (And I would prefer to avoid the clutter of a project file for each draft.) If not, I think it would be an amazing future addition to Dorico!

Thanks,
Harold

Dorico doesn’t have a feature like the Versions feature in Sibelius. I’m not sure whether we will add a feature exactly like it in future, but we know there is utility there, of course (we built that feature in Sibelius, many years ago).

I find I save the file with a different suffix (in my case a datestamp: myfileyymmdd) so I can refer back to the former file (or restore it as my working file) if my musings go astray.

I sometimes copy an existing version into a new flow when I want to try out changes I’m not sure I will keep. It adds an extra step but usefully keeps everything together the next time I open the file.

I’d love to see it in Dorico someday, but till then I can work around it. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks! I’ll have to give this a try.
