Musescore 4, Muse Sounds

oh, I love his Staccato PlugIn:

The amount of RAM needed depends on the library you use. Some libraries are huge. The BBCSO Core (which sounds great) takes about 18+ gigs on my 24 gig MacBook Air. That’s about as big as my Mac can handle. The Synchron Prime library weighs in at around a measly (by comparison) 4 gigs, and sounds pretty good. There’s even a free playback engine for the free Iconica library that is now included with Dorico. And, you can mix and match.

FR: sound samples with embedded video for even greater realism!

yeah! thats it! :grin:I require the immediate implemetation of some little bit of AI to the next minor Dorico - update (and I insist it must be free!) that should give us FINALLY a complete concerto-video-mockup with ultra realistic orchestra, conductor behavior parameters (more or less jumpy) and some soloists selection including e.g. Hillary Hahn AND Heifetz, further more a super realistic audience (coughs etc.) inclusive, that should applaud frenetically  my immortal scores… (maybe I am willing to pay for the latter).

I realize that this is an older post, but has anyone heard any additional info on being able to use MuseScore 4 sounds in Dorico 5 pro?

I think it’s unlikely that you will ever see this. As said above, MuseSounds use a separate framework from the MIDI/VST standard that Dorico uses. They would have to write a whole load of code to ‘plumb’ MuseSounds in.

Instead, we have Iconica Sketch, NotePeformer, and any other VST libraries you care to purchase.

No, you can’t, and never will, just as you can’t use the StaffPad sounds

Thanks for confirming…

I am aware this is an old post, but would there be a way to hook up Dorico with MPE via plugin (Like JACK) so that it plays through MuseScore?

I don’t understand why people keep hoping for this.

The solution is simple if you are really so hell-bent on it:
Make the dorico file that you want for actual printing. Export the XML, import it into musescore, and have musescore do it’s thing.

I know, but having the experience of using Dorico plus the sounds as you write

Y’know, someone could just create a VSTi based off and sampled from them… and it could update consistently as well. It could play in HalION with a library per family.

Can’t you just use virtual MIDI cables to send MIDI out of Dorico and into Musecore? They’re easy to setup on a Mac, in Windows you’d need to buy something like LoopBe.

Honestly though… $129 or $10/month for Noteperformer… much better sounds in my opinion. Even the Iconica version included free in Dorico is comparable to Muse sounds.

Tons of hype around Muse sounds but the old saying is still true: You get what you pay for.

Hmmm… how would that work? Musescore doesn’t support live midi in but with some delay it should work.
Iconica Sketch is definitely comparable to Muse Sounds. Just less varied. I’m probably never going to get Iconica S&P, but very likely Noteperfomer, which is really nice although the string samples are a bit annoying.

No idea, so I’ll leave it to you. I don’t have the time to install it and figure it out.

Good luck.

I am honestly impressed with Muse Sounds, as it is a free library as powerful as many libraries in the hundreds (USD). Just saying I wish I could use it with the also ridiculously powerful Dorico. I know this topic is as good as closed, but I wanted to put this here.

A Journey through Worlds of Sound – Sunwoo Lim, arr. for Symphony Orch. by Asher S. by Asher S.

It’s not going to happen unless Muse Group themselves make a VSTi version, or unless they are able to allow third parties to use MPE plugins without them having to be open source. I can’t see them doing either.

Honestly, you say that the NP4 strings are less than ideal, but you actually LIKE the strings in MuseSounds?

You haven’t worked with a real string orchestra recently, have you? Sure, the NP4 sounds aren’t absolutely “real”, but they’re a hell of a lot closer to the real thing than the horrible twangy sounds in Muse Sounds.

But anyway, you’ve gotten your answer. It’s not going to happen any time soon. So either use Musescore, or use Dorico with another sample library.

What do you mean by twangy? I’ve hardly ever had any of my pieces played, but I regularly play in an orchestra, and they sound good to me and everyone else who’s heard them! Definitely a bit slidy, but definitely realistic. And that’s coming from a cellist.
Also, although NP4 phrases beautifully and theoretically sounds realistic, their strings are rather cold/robotic, while Muse Sounds actually sounds warm.
But maybe just because this was the first serious sample library I’ve worked with.

NP4 strings arco ord attack sounds ridiculous, specially at f it becomes evident. It’s too slow.
With that aside, I’m with Romanos. This doesn’t look like it is something corncerning Dorico.
