Musicals: other options for Fine

Very often we need add [Segue as one] or [Applause segue], etc.

Could this just be an option?

Currently, I use Fine, then custom text, then have to set Fine to be displayed below the staff. The issue is that all marks in that category are below the staff, so may need to be adjusted for 20+ players, in their 90+ page parts.

Just create a custom Paragraph Style that has the formatting you desire and then use it instead!

This would be great (same with page-turns etc).

The only thing I don’t like about that is that it’s not automatic to get the text left-aligned to the final barline. You can choose alignment in Paragraph Styles, but it’ll still be attached to a rhythmic position before the barline.

I agree with @dan_kreider. It’s nice having it on the final barline, instead of a rhythmic position.

Also, having the brackets [ ] be automatic would help.

We have 70-90(ish) flows, and use it a lot.

But, @DanielMuzMurray, thank you for the info on paragraph styles. I had missed that I could make my own. That is helpful, for now with this, and with some other issues.

I’ll try it with the page-turns, though, just like the segue, it would be nice for it to be anchored to the final barline instead of the last rhythmic position.

I would think there should be a way to automatically put in page-turn notes in parts, based on what’s on the following page. I know, it’s a lot.

Hi @AndyVegetable, @dan_kreider I tried and came out with this method to have any text at the bottom end of score and parts, aligned with the final barline:

create a custom horizontal line, with invisible body, and with a custom text annotation (you can create also a custom Paragraph style for it). Apply it (attached to barlines) selecting the last two barlines in full score. Duplicate to staff below for all the staves of the last system in score. Then select the last bar, filter for horizontal lines (deselect just the “text” in the lowest staff if still selected) and set the Opacity(Alpha) for the lines to 0% (with the Panel set to Locally). The custom text will appear nicely aligned at the bottom of both score and parts :-):

Workflow (click to expand):

Dorico file example:
text at bottom right end of layout using line.dorico (1.4 MB)

Custom line:

Local Properties (Full score):

If you want you can also customise the Distance from item value. (If you use a value bigger then 0 you should deactivate voice collision in the properties of the hidden lines, at the step when you change the opacity):

Hi- This looks good but I don’t understand how to get an “invisible” line; I don’t see that as a choice.

Create a dashed line body like this.

Hello. Good option but… wouldn’t that break multi-bar rests?

thanks for responding. I don’t have all of those choices in the left column.

Those are dependent on the chosen category, and probably @jesele and @Christian_R have added some homemade ones (see the + bottom left)

will do, thanks.

Yes, unfortunately (as also a fermata does).

So editing a Fine (Repeat Section) item, is still preferable.

Indeed.
