With my project open I go to file -
export to music XML it remains grayed out. I do not have the score open I have the latest version of cubase 12 professional. Any advice?

This function is only relevant to music notation in the Score Editor. So the Score Editor must be open and frontmost in order to use it. Please search the manual.
