Mute button not muting tracks

Hi - I’ve got a problem in Dorico Pro 5 where the mute button in Play mode doesn’t seem to work.

The score is basic. Five voices, all using the default Halion Yamaha S90ES patch. Each voice has a patch allocated to it in Halion and if I change the patch for a given voice that’s the sound I hear when I play the score back.

However, if I go to Play view and use the mute and/or solo buttons they simply don’t work. It doesn’t matter what combination of buttons I use: Playback always plays back all voices.

I can mute the voices in Halion so I can get done what I need to that way, but I’m just a bit baffled why the mute buttons in Dorico aren’t working. I must be overlooking something … does anyone have any clues what I might try?

What the mute and solo buttons do is mute or solo the outputs of the plug-in, rather than preventing the signal from being sent to the plug-in in the first place. Dorico assumes that each channel on the HALion plug-in will be routed to a separate input, in sequential order, so channel 1 = output 1, and so on. I imagine the problem in your project is that isn’t how your outputs are configured.

If you apply one of Dorico’s factory playback templates, the outputs will be set up correctly automatically. If it’s an option for you, try reapplying the playback template.

It worked! You are a king amongst men!!
