I’m needing proper MXF Video support in Nuendo so I can Import MXF videos, extract audio from MXF Video files, write audio back to MXF files.
In a search I found a post from Timo in 2014 saying MXF support was being seriously considered … so it’s been a while!
TBH I’m kind of surprised that it isn’t in Nuendo 13 … I mean MXF is the broadcast standard in Europe … no?
But I accepted a job, and I’m getting tons of MXF content to sweeten and I’m going to have to transcode everything to get at the audio. ( or just do the work in an NLE where I won’t get the control over the audio that I want. But needs must ).
Still can’t believe MXF isn’t supported … am I missing something??
So I can’t help you with any answers as to why they don’t support it, but a program you can use to help deal with it is Shutter Encoder. It’s a nice GUI frontend for FFMPEG (and some other utilities) and has functions to do things like extract the audio from an MFX easily without re-encoding.
It’s free/open source and supports a ton of codecs and containers. It’s my go-to when I need to easily do format conversion.
I wasn’t aware of this app and at first glance it’s a winner! I have tried quite a few converters over the years but this is SO complete and deals with some details ( eg audio track handling! ) that others dont.
If you reading this and ever need to do conversions … check it out, you won’t be sorry!
Glad it helps you. As you say it is REALLY complete. Also it is easy to use, which many aren’t including all its components. It doesn’t actually do anything new, it just ties together a bunch of OSS apps, but those are all command line and none of them do everything you need.
