My hardware/OS okay for Cubase 13?

A while back I had some audio issues with my Cubase 11 install and Yamaha support (Canada) told me that my processor was ‘no longer supported under Win 10’. Seemed odd because Cubase was working fine for a couple of years. My needs are simple so I started using Cubase 8 which was still installed.

Can someone have a look at my computer specs and confirm that I should not attempt to get the sale price on Cubase 13 upgrade because my hardware is too old?

Everything would be OK except for the CPU which is the 2nd generation i7. If it weren’t for that, you’d be fine. You have enough memory, and your hard drive would almost certainly be sufficient.
Cubase 13 system requirements say a generation 4 or older, so yours is technically 2 years too old to be supported, although it might technically work…your mileage would vary, and would be sketchy at best.

Yep, that’s what I figured. Thanks a lot for having a look. My rig is basically working okay for Cubase 8 (should be able to get 11 back up and running, it was working fine before something [maybe a driver update?] busted it) and Dorico 5.

Time to start spec’ing out a new rig I guess.

If you’re in the US and have access to Micro Center (or their website), you can order refurbished PCs for dirt cheap (a couple hundred bucks in some cases) and it would be sufficient enough to meet Cubase 13’s system requirements. You wouldn’t be able to run 100s of VST instruments at once, but you’d be able to get by for sure.
There are only a few locations around the US but maybe you live close enough to one where you can pick up one of their refurbished ones and not have to spend a ton of cash.

I’m in Toronto unfortunately, but I can source some refurb machines for the equivalent of about $300 USD (notice from the BIOS that this rig is some sort of Lenovo corporate build). I suppose I could just get along with Cubase 8 until this rig really dies but I’ll bet 13 has some nice improvements. And maybe it works better with Dorico 5, which I use a lot more.

It’s too bad that you can’t run the trial first to see if it’s worth upgrading your computer for. Maybe the trial would work, even though the software isn’t supported - at least work enough to see if there’s anything there that you’d find worthy of an upgrade.

Great idea actually. Hadn’t occurred to me!
