Narrow spacing for empty bars?

Any way to acheive this without manually editing each one?

Going for this sort of look.

Dorico seems to insist on spacing it roughly as if each bar contained the appropriate number of quarters,. resulting in much wasted space

I guess the first thing to try is select how many bars you want in each system and Make into system?

Not quite as universal as I’d hoped, but it’s not bad!

A Note Spacing Change will do this nicely. Less brute forcing of the layout engine.

You should also find that changing the two values for the minimum and maximum values for the width of a multi-bar rest on the Rests page of Engraving Options will help.
