I too have had countless problems with Maschine + Cubase over the years. So many issues, in fact, that I finally gave up on it altogether. I really like Maschine too, so letting it go has been tough. But my system is a lot(!!!) more stable this way, like night and day different, and I prefer greater stability since Cubase is already super fragile. I actually got so frustrated with all the crashes that I picked up a copy of Bitwig, and holy moly am I impressed by how much more stable it is. Cubase crashes like 3 times a week minimum, meanwhile I donât think Bitwig has crashed 3 times in the last year (and I spend 5x more time in Bitwig than in Cubase, making the comparison even more one sided).
I can only speak for my own experience, but Maschine 2 has been at the heart of my productions for the last dozen or so years and has been 100% solid on my (many and various) Windows PCs alongside the iterations of Cubase over the years.
If you are experiencing Maschine problems you may need to look further into the issues - are you using third party VSTs for example? I only use the stock FX alongside Monark, Reaktor etc. Maybe an external VST is incompatible with the software? Maybe an old VST2 at play? Could be a lot of stuff, but experience here tells me it is not Maschine per se âŚ
It may be worth trying trashing Cubase Preferences and restarting with Factory defaults.
As always, make a backup before doing this!!!
Hi,
More details to the preferencesâŚ
You can try in the Cubase Safe Start Mode [Disable preferences].
If it doesnât help, you can rename/remove the whole Cubase preferences folder (or in the best case all Cubase versions preferences folders).
Cubase Preferences folders are:
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase X
Win: %appData% \Steinberg\Cubase X_64
Where the X is the Cubase version (for example 13).
Itâs your auto backup creating the name clash files I think
- your proton backup saving files to a different file system, and then syncing to your computer potentially. It doesnât seem like a cubase problem
this solved the name clash thanks!
To be fair, Martin had it way back -

Hi,
Are you in Mac or Windows, please?
Isnât there any other application (like any backup application) involved by any chance?
It was my auto backup application that created the name clashes thanks!
