My friend originally bought Dorico 3.5. Earlier this week, he upgraded to Dorico Pro 5.
He received a 25 alpha-numeric Activation code (5 blocks of 5 characters) in the e-mail with the receipt.
Every time he opens Dorico, he gets a “you have 3 more days left until you won’t be able to save.” He clicks on the link and it tells him that to enter his activation code. However, it is asking for a 32 alpha-numeric activation code (8 blocks of 4 characters).
Can someone explain to me in detail what he needs to do to activate Dorico? He thinks he is following the steps, and nothing seems to be working.
He already has Dorico Pro 5 installed, and is using it. So I am assuming he went through the Download Assistant. So I am not sure why he keeps getting this error. Keep in mind… he is half the country away from me, and so I am having to take his word on what he did.
This could look like the new thing implemented for those who are still under Dorico 3.5, they are supposed to connect to MySteinberg to receive a code so that even after the deadline (May 2025?) they still can use their software… What puzzles me is the fact that your friend is using Dorico 5.
Hi @Robby_Poole , your screenshot looks like the activation mask of the old eLicenser. Since that is a thing of the past, I think you can just ignore it, especially because you are already running Dorico 5.
But I would also check the Steinberg Activation Manager and see the license status of Dorico in there. It could be that you are runing the Pro 5 in trial mode.
If that is so, then have a look again if you can find the eLicenser Activation Code for the Dorico 3.5.
We follow the instructions. We see there is a Dorico 3.5 Grace period something. We continue to follow the steps and hit update license. It tells us to close the elicenser, which we do. It reopens, fills in the code, then goes to the elicenser window which shows there are NO licenses available listed to upgrade. The soft elicenser shows a read circle with a line through it (unavailable).
He owns a small publishing house, and I am his engraver. He bought Dorico 3.5 years ago, because I was using Dorico and sending him Dorico files and PDFs. He never used it, and stayed with Finale when he had to do teaching work. Since the sunsetting of Finale, he decided it’s time to learn Dorico.
With all of this in mind, it’s been years. I don’t believe he bought the USB elicenser. I believe he used the soft elicenser the whole time.
A few days ago he kept getting some error about Dorico 3.5, and since he bought the DP5 upgrade, he moved the Dorico 3.5 application to the trash and emptied the trash (Uninstalling Dorico 3.5).
I should add, he uninstalled Dorico Pro 5, and tried to reinstall and he is still getting this error.
Is there someone he can email directly to get this solved? He tried calling a number, and it went to Yamaha here in the USA, and whoever he spoke with had no clue about Dorico.
Hi @Robby_Poole, may I suggest that your friend (or you for him) could post here with his account, so that the Team could verify his account/license situation directly, and give then further advice?
Since your friend’s license for Dorico Pro 3.5 includes the phrase Grace Period Eligible, that suggests that he is eligible for a free upgrade to a newer version of Dorico Pro. This might explain why the attempt to verify the license for a paid upgrade to Dorico Pro 5 isn’t working.
However, I am not affiliated with Steinberg and wish that @dspreadbury or someone else on the Dorico team would examine your friend’s account and determine the steps which need to be taken to resolve this issue.
