Need to change or delete glyph

Continuing the discussion from Delete button functionality in glyph editor:

Hi, Simon. I wish I had an answer to your question but I am having the same issue. I need to delete a glyph and have not found a way to do it. Here’s the background:

I write a lot of jazz charts so I wanted a chord repeat symbol. Not finding one in the existing glyphs, I created one. Somehow, the one I created now has the name “augmentation dot” (I don’t know how that happened, although I’m sure it was my error). Now, every time I write a dotted note (dotted quarter, dotted eighth, etc.), Dorico inserts a chord repeat symbol instead of a dot next to the notehead. (See photos)

Within the glyph “music symbols” editor, the delete and backspace buttons do nothing. I can’t figure out how to either edit, rename or delete this glyph so that I can write dotted notes.

I should mention that I created a different lead sheet from scratch and did not have this problem. That makes me wonder if the custom glyph is part of a template that I have been using for my jazz charts. To test that theory, I created a new chart from scratch and copied the contents from the old template into the new chart. The problem persisted.

If anyone has ideas for me, I would be very appreciative!

There is a trash can icon at the bottom right. Click on that.

Hi @lmarcmusic, Adding to what @StevenJones01 suggested, I would also try to deactivate the star icon (Save as default). Not sure if this will help eliminating the persistence of that item, though:

Deactivating the star, will probably activate the reset functionality again (the circular arrow icon just near it). Try this steps:

  1. Deactivate the star icon clicking on it (it should look “empty”) to make the item not saved as default anymore
  2. Confirm and close the dialogue clicking OK
  3. Reopen the dialogue and press the circular arrow icon (which should be active again, now) to reset the item
  4. Confirm and close clicking OK
  5. Optional (After you successfully reset the item, you can try reactivating the star symbol, “forcing” so the factory item configuration to be the default. Not sure if this last step makes sense, or if would bring any advantages in your situation. Just try it.)

Wow, Steven and Christian, thanks so much for your help. Problem solved! I had studied the “edit music symbol” window for a ridiculous amount of time and didn’t find the trash icon until you told me it was there. It took a combination of the two solutions to completely fix the problem. By deactivating the star and hitting the reset button, the glyph reset with the exception of one extra dot. Then I followed your instructions, Christian, and it reset the dot to its original state. Thank you both SO much!
