New Cubase 14 mixing console tab has no options like Cubase 13 had

Again, you’re not offering anything of value to the conversation, other than “some people cried”. Well, great. That’s nice.

The point being it was a function that was already existing. It was introduced to fulfill a function that was missing. What harm would there be to keep it? It’s not like the screen real estate is now being put to use for something else. It’s an odd decision, which only serves to alienate some users, while offering no benefit to others…

My post was an answer to a previous post, so why you are trying to offend me?

What exactly is your contribution? To force me into a dialog I don’t want to have?

Erm, mate I’m not forcing you to do anything. You’re the one who came in with attitude about people complaining , when they were making some valid points about the change.

You said noone stated how they liked the function, and then there’s a bunch of people saying they like the function, that it’s removal will change their workflow. This entire forum is people stating their opinions on features added/removed.

Why exactly do you have a problem with the thoughts offered by people here who may want this mixer functionality back?

Attitude? Could it be a misinterpretation?

Were do you find any word against the offered thoughts? Really?

One would think there might be an option to have a rotary dial instead of a fader strip, just as is done on many compact mixers in real life. Also, many of us have separate control surfaces with motorized faders, so we may really on want access to the insert and send levels anyway.

I don’t think you and I are on the same page. Let’s just leave it there so as to not hijack the thread any further.

I like that I can have a full mixer now at the bottom, but it’s also really annoying for stuff like mastering - I don’t need the faders for that, which means now I can’t really use it at all as it takes up too much real estate when I need lots of tracks in the arranger. A bit poopies tbh.

I really want the switchable view of the previous Cubase versions back. I have a mobile recording rig with a laptop that does not have a lot of screen estate. The old solution worked perfectly on that setup. Now I am constanlty resizing and scrolling through the mixer sections. That’s really inefficient.
Another option would be to make the faders switchable in the layout setup window. That would be quicker than the current hassle.

Having just upgraded to Cubase 14, I am really missing the MixConsole tabs. The current single-window design is less screen-efficient and feels less user-friendly, often obscuring the timeline. While customization is welcome, the quick tab access to faders/inserts/sends is now a less efficient drag-to-reveal system. The bottom mixer served a distinct and useful purpose for timeline-focused work, where simultaneous visibility of all parameters is rarely needed (the side Inspector handles this well). If I wanted the full MixConsole, I would simply press F3. If the bottom mixer now occupies more than half the screen, it’s arguably better to just use the full MixConsole. I appreciate the innovation in Cubase, but removing established features like the bottom mixer doesn’t make sense, especially to those working on smaller screens. Please consider adding it back as an option.

This has still yet to be addressed.

While they made the lower mixconsole fader section able to be resized somewhat, and created a hotkey to remove the faders, it still doesn’t give the space and flow that cubase 13 has, and that is needed.

Every single update I rush to see if this has been addressed, and now worry that Steinberg won’t, in essence, add back in a simple feature that they took out, a button that changes what is in the lower mix console. Instead, they put resize on the faders and put in a hotkey, thinking, “okay onto the next thing”.

I’m now stuck on Cubase 13 since this happened, besides about a 4 week period where I really, really, really tried to make the new lower console work. The problem is that by removing that button, it has completely destroyed flow, and now everything feels like a 12x12 area inside a 3x3 box; crowded and messy.

Cubase has been my DAW for 20 years. I can’t believe that they would purposefully remove an option. Every improvement has always been an upgrade, with more options and more tools. It’s not as if the GUI has changed so much since cubase 13 as to remove a button that swapped the lower mix consoles options.

It really boggles my mind that this is all from a damn button. I’m going to have to change DAWs because of a button… It sounds insane and makes me sad, angry, and confused, but I’m about to just stop checking the updates for this button to come back, and move onto bitwig or studio one or something.

So PLEASE, Steinberg, I’m on my knees here… for the love of god and all that is holy, BRING BACK THE DAMN BUTTON!!!

Sincerely
A very long time (and until recently, a very happy) customer

There were simply too many people asking for a full mixing console in the lower zone and by far not enough people arguing to keep the old mixer.
Steinberg listened to their customers and this is the result.

I am sorry that a functionality vital to you was changed.
Everytime Steinberg tries to optimize workflow there are customers who become unhappy… but usually more customers become happy.

Well, there’s never a lack of dramatic hysterics is there. Its a wonder how the human race was ever able to adapt and change for anything and get to where it is now..

I completely agree with what the other user mentioned above. The new Mixing Console tab in Cubase 14 feels like a step back compared to Cubase 13.

  • Bring Back the Switch Buttons:
In Cubase 13, we could easily switch between Faders, Inserts, and Sends with one click. Now in Cubase 14, it takes up too much workspace and feels much less efficient when we just want to tweak a plugin or quickly adjust faders. The previous design with buttons was much faster and more practical for daily mixing work.

  • Add Channel Visibility Options:
Another big issue is that there’s no way to hide channels and busses in the Tab Console, like we can in the full Mixing Console (F3). It would be great if you could add this ability back so we can keep our workspace clean and focus only on the channels we need.

Please consider bringing back the Cubase 13 style for the Mixing Console tab, or at least give us an option to switch between the old and new layouts. Many of us rely on that workflow every day, and it really impacts speed and comfort while mixing.

Thanks for listening to the community feedback! @atthias_Quellmann

This thread has prompted me to look at key commands to achieve a ‘no fader’ option.
I found a key command that seems to do something like the action you are ‘missing’
For me it works and toggles the fader visibility.

Yes! This key command is exactly what the 14.0.32 update added — and it really helps.

I mapped it as well, and now I can quickly hide or show the fader section with one shortcut and get more space for Inserts and Sends, especially in the Lower Zone where screen real estate matters most.

But I want to stress that the main issue is still unresolved:

In Cubase 13 we had dedicated buttons to switch between Faders / Inserts / Sends with a single click.

That workflow was extremely fast and efficient.

Even with this new key command, we still have to manually open/close sections, which takes more time and space compared to the old one-click solution.

Hopefully Steinberg can bring those switch buttons back as an optional layout in Cubase 14.

This shortcut is a great temporary workaround, but the real request is still to restore the Cubase 13-style switch buttons.

Yes you can hide the faders. Open the setup for mixer (cogwheel in upper right corner of the mixer window) and tick off faders. You can set up a shortcut for it too, if you want, in Keycommands/Mixer/showhide faders. I use “ctrl+shift+F” myself.
