‘New’ features in next update (poll)

I doubt that I can do a poll so I’m just gonna give you the options and let you vote for one or all of them :joy: :upside_down_face:

Next time there’s any kind of an upgrade what would you consider to be **absolutely ** essential?

Please vote for any or all of these four and no other

  1. A tempo track
  2. A time signature track
  3. A marker track
  4. A method for importing/exporting MIDI files easily.

Okay, I was having a bit of a laugh up there :fu: but it is a serious subject.
I’ve been away for just short of a year and I’ve come back to music - and my iPad - to find that Logic Pro has released a DAW package which does include most of the above. That was 8 months ago so I would have thought that Cubasis would have been quick to try to make up the ground.
I don’t particularly want to go down that route though because it has a few issues; they obviously aren’t quick on upgrades, not to mention the idea of subscription fees.

Lars, if you’re reading this I’m more than aware of some of the great work which you and your team have done over the years so please don’t think that I’m just grumbling for the sake of it. But if you could find a way to include the above (the top three of which seem to be straight forward number crunching) then it would be game changer because then undoubtedly the best overall DAW would be transformed into a genuine music making environment.

As it stands, I look back at old topics to find that around 8 years ago you said they were on the list for the next update followed by, a year or two later, you saying that it’s technically difficult.

I fail to see what’s so difficult but maybe there actually is something, in which case you should tell us what it is.

Hi TxBlazteroid,
Very good questions, we have lost count of the times this subject has been brought up in this forum, and from the many answers I have read, it would mean rewriting Cubasis from the ground up, this would then be Cubasis 4, would it then become a subscription app, who knows.
I would love to see a tempo track added, I got so used to using one in Cubase for years, but there are work arounds for a marker track, and tempo change using time stretch, it does work but is fiddly.
Cubasis 3 costs around the £40 mark with no subscription, whereas Logic Pro costs ££££££, but good luck with your quest……we are all behind you :beers:
Mike

Re. #4: Cubasis can already import MIDI files (I do it all the time and it works flawlessly). What’s the issue?

There is no issue, TxBlazterziod was requesting 1, 2 and 3 be considered for a future update.

  1. A tempo track
  2. A time signature track
  3. A marker track
  4. A method for importing/exporting MIDI files easily.

#5 linked midi clips/shared events

Hiya Mike
I’ve been using Cubase of some kind or another since the early 1990s with an Atari ST. I’m pretty sure there was tempo and time sig automation even back then - not to mention a kicker tool, which I still miss :upside_down_face: and list edit plus the darkly mysterious zone of the Logical Editor, which I don’t miss at all.

Anyway, back on point: assuming that you’re correct and Cubasis will need a total rebuild and become Cubasis 4 …… well that only serves to suggest that some ‘genius’ coded one of the earlier versions to not have them. Why would anyone do that? Makes no sense at all - meaning they released what they chose to call ‘A Digital Audio Workstation’ while it wasn’t even a fully featured multi track sequencer.
If that’s the case, it’s really poor.

Cheers mate

That’s 5 edits now, I give up

Can’t import tempo automation data etc though, eh?

I’ve read everything and totally agree to all feature requests.

Cubasis is an excellent tool to make good sounding music, not because of cubasis itself but in the iOS AppStore you find thousands of really great highend auv3 apps that are working with cubasis. I personally use Cubasis for Soundtrack design no beatmaking stuff, but orchestral music and Cubasis performs very very well and in that sense it can compete with Cubase 13.

We don’t need a Cubasis 4 but we need goodies and tools like tempo track or markers or something like that. It’s also a shame that cubasis is not able to export automation data, not even importing. It’s also not harmonic with Dorico even when this is ios app, or iam to dump for using it haha.

It’s also a pain to not be able to preview custom midis with the autoplay function. This works somehow only with Steinbergs Audios.

I love to preview midis from my personal midi database in Ableton live.

So far so good… I made a wishlist post with my long list of feature requests too.

Hi TxBlazterzoid,
Do you know what…. I never thought of it like that and you have hit on a good point.
My first experience with Cubase 5 was on Windows 95, Windows 98, then XP, now I use Cubse SX2 on Windows Vista and it still works a treat, what I really miss is the Tempo track which could change tempo in steps or ramp increment/decrement, and also the ability to change time signature mid song which I have done so many times, and like you said - why would they NOT include these features.
Thanks for opening my eyes.
Cheers :beers:

Hi alexsMusicComps,
You have my vote on this one☑️
:beers:

Man-oh-man! I’ve posted about this and watched the topic pop up regularly on the forum. I don’t know what percentage of popular songs have an instance of changing time or tempo, but about 15% of the songs I write have at least one measure with a different time signature. I think not having this ability contributes to the dumbing down of music.

I’m not particularly sympathetic to Steinberg’s program development challenges as they relate to such a common - what I would call baseline - feature. Come on folks, can you make it happen please?

  1. Tempo track !

Hi,

I don’t know where to post my concerns related to “new” features in next update, so I post it here below, to avoid duplicates topics…

  • No more gap at the end on recorded audio takes (in case it has nothing to do with latency…)
  • Hide/unhide tracks belonging to a group track
  • Add “cut” option as now it’s really difficult to move multiple selection using fingers without making a mistake by engaged/touching tracks anchors (fade, volume, copy).
  • Add “cut” option into the audio track editor to allow more accurate cut than trim only which depends on the magnification scale factor view.
  • lock/unlock tracks
  • Lock sample rate… I prefer Cubasis crash while using interapp audio plugins, instead of changing the sample rate of a project without notice…
  • Lock Tempo in order that no external apps can change it by user inadvertence.
  • Automatic cross fade options
  • Ability to import multiple tracks at once
  • Overall stability improvement especially regarding latency.

Thank you.
Cheers !

User Midi Autoplay - especially for drum grooves - is URGENTLY needed for the most basic groove browsing! Without that, the whole midi drum groove functionality of Cubasis is pretty much useless.

A Cubasis mini Groove Agent/Beat Agent is urgently needed as well, to have a proper Cubasis drum groove tool (Classic machines is certainly not sufficient), and to be able to use your own drum sample kits like with Beat Agent in Cubase.

Hi jim_knopf,
Tap the Autoplay circled in red to hear all the Midi and Audio drum loops
:+1:

No, for some strange reason Autoplay only works with factory grooves, not with user Midi (greyed out and not useable then). This is completely bonkers from my my view…

Midi mapping request:

  1. Mapping for ON/OFF of the effect for overdrive ant other duitars effects and cabinets, delay, reverb…
  2. Akai endless encodrs support
