New Licensing

I lost my usb E-license last week , when I came on website saw an update about licensing is shut down on May20.
How could I get new license directly , doing zero downtime and buying a new usb dongle for 2 month does not make any sense for me. could steinberg gives me new licence so I can start using my cubase . please help

Hi and welcome to the forum,

If you lost your. USB-eLicenser, follow these instructions, please.

Once you have your license back, I would recommend you to update to the latest Cubase to bypass the eLicenser technology.

what if I directly upgrade my Cubase to 14th version. and skipped buying usb dongle.
would it be work

No. That is “no” under the following as things stand March 1 2025 around here…

Your license for Cubase 7 (or whatever it was) is on the dongle…which must be in the computer…operating…and seeable by say, Cubase 14 at new-cb-activation- time (IF you have previously clicked to buy “upgrade” version 14, not standalone)…so that the activation of 14 happens and…and…is then (14 only) is assigned to be associated with your steinberg license account (the new license system) that…for 14…is now on your computer user account…not the dongle.

The “working” dongle (let’s say if you buy a replacement for the lost elicenser) continues operating for loading cubase 7 (or whatever it is) …until THAT dongle breaks/is lost out there in 2034.

If you ARE going to go the route of replacing the dongle and proceeding that way, you’ll have to verify that the lost elicenser itself (its serial) is showing on your registered products area at sb (you yourself would’ve registered the physical dongle when you bought it)…then you’d contact SB for license-switch to the new dongle options…AFTER (of course) you actually are in possession of a new dongle that you buy from Amazon etc …and yeah…time is quickly running out

It’s your call.

Getting Cubase 14 is a “yes” based on the following…

Maybe just flat-out buy Cubase 14 (at whatever current discount that’s on for full standalone) if you’re not interested in ever using your old Cubase 7 version anyway.

There are random unconfirmed rumors that sb may run a cubase sale around May in tandem with the server shutdown…I dunno myself. If they DO run a sale, I’d guess you still must provide the serial of your lost dongle (from your sb account)…but again…I don’t know what SB has planned.

All that being said…you may want to contact sb direct to at least ask if there’s a more streamlined option they’ll offer to you.

But…I guarantee that if you wanna continue ALSO using your old Cubase 7 (or whatever) alongside 14+ …you’re gonna need a dongle in place…and fast!!
