Hi,

Make sure Cubase has enabled Mic in the System Preferences, please.
Open macOS System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Microphone. Enable Cubase here.

Yup… I have done that…im able to get signal now but it is almost unrecognizable….distorded….jerky…awful. I can’t pinpoint whether it’s mac, cubase setting or ssl….crazy

Did you turn off the Mac voice isolation function.

Yes, its off. Tried messing with sample rates, buffering you name it i think I’ve tried it

Hi,

Try to export it. Do you hear the distortion also on the exported WAV (when playing back in basic player like QuickTime or VLC), please?

Thank u….yes I did try to export…same gibberish…..so after this I tried replacing my new interface with a cheap behringer that I had UMC202hd. I had the same issues and results leading me to Cubase, mac conflict…not sure where it is. It looks lik to me that when I record just some guutar chords that it’s not recording everything that im sending it. It looks like it’s on the input side of things but still not sure

Hi,

Do you use supported Sample Rate? Would you mind to attach a piece of the audio, please? Maybe, once we hear it, we can identify the issue.

I have attached screenshot of Cubase and 1 of SSL360. Latency numbers seem out of whack to me which is cause recording to sound the way it does. What should your input and output latency numbers be?

192k sample rate.

Try using a rate like normal people do…..44.1 or 48k.

Those were default settings verified ok by steinberg support. I have have tried changing all buffer/sample rates within cubase and ssl….that is the smallest latency numbers I can achieve!

There is no way project setting in Cubase defaults to 192k.

I have have tried changing all buffer/sample rates within cubase and ssl

So with 48k sample rate and buffer of 128 or more you get the exact same result when you record audio??

Yup….was on with support this morning….worked different sample rates and buffer settings. Same results.

Can you set something like 48k, 128 buffer and screencap the Studio Setup again showing input/output latencies.

I use the SSL driver with Big Six….but it only goes up to 96k….at all rates it has similar figures for in and out, not like you show there at all.

Here is thelatest numbers with settings you requested. I since sold my ssl to a buddyvout of frustration, he brought over a 2 in 2 out behringer tgat he was using to test. Plugged it in, booted up , Cubase found it, bam input latency just over 5ms, input just under 2. Solved right? Nope. Recorded just some Strumming and perfect input and playback. Shut down Cubase. Opened up later and latency numbers were back up to 30input and 3 or so output. Wth. The settings didnt change from what I set 44khz, 128 but the latency did. Unplugged interface, plugged back in bam great numbers 5ms in 2 out. Did that a couple more times same results, high latency after shutting cubase down then reopening,

OK….if you’re getting variable input latency I would suspect this is something in your core audio…..some other hardware or software trying to access inputs perhaps?

Also just in case…..you are using a USB cable that is data rated and is 1m or less?

Yes…data cable that came with the interface. You think it’s a Mac issue? Or Cubase conflict? Thanks for your help!!

Can you show us what devices are in your core audio list. (Audio midi setup)
