This sounds like a serious hardware problem. From what you write it is nothing that can be caused by Cubase.

2 possible scenarios:

  • USB devices are ‘old’ (check if one of the devices/drivers are listed as ‘legacy’).
this triggers odd behaviour caused by a Win security feature to check USB certificates. too old devices make terror (e.g. Korg early USB staffed intruments)
  • GPU drivers, esp. when you have motherboard graphics and GPU in use.

I had all this fun, and sometimes after Win updates I learn something new.

Have you tested all RAM? You could use e.g. memtest86+ and let it run for at least 24 hours.

What, if any Asus software and drivers did you install?
Chipset drivers? Updated to the latest BIOS? VGA drivers?

Rightclick on the Windows menu icon and select Device Manager.
Any items with a question mark and a yellow sign with exclamation mark is hardware with missing drivers.

Go to: PRIME X870-P WIFI-CSM|Motherboards|ASUS Global
for updated drivers, firmware and bios.

Windows 24H2 caused me that Cubase 14 performed bad… Cubase 13 was Ok. Went back to W23H2 to work normal with C14.

FWIW, I’ve been running developer builds of Cubase and Dorico with a similar spec machine and it’s been very stable. AMS Ryzen 9 7950X3d, Asus X670-based mobo, RTX 4060, Samsung SSD.

Did you built this PC or did you buy it from a PC company?

Can you post a crash report? There are people here who can read these and hopefully give you an idea as of to what the problem might be.

There are tons of things that could have gone wrong in your build. Cubase running great here on a similar build.

My suggestion is to start from the bottom up with your hardware to make sure everything is working perfectly.

Start by running an intensive memtest session and extended CPU test with Prime95 to see if your system is truly stable. That will uncover anything you missed in your build.

Then do a fresh install of Windows, and consider following the various guides out there for DAW builds. I can’t detail all the steps here, too many options, but you can streamline your Windows install to your heart’s desire.

Also test your DPC latency (i.e use Resplendence Software - LatencyMon: suitability checker for real-time audio and other tasks ) to check if there are any real-time audio issues with your system. Sometimes there will be something unexpected that is dragging your whole system down for real-time audio.

Also make sure you are using the “Studio” version of the your nVidia drivers. The “normal” drivers often cause problems for DAW work.

Between all those steps, you’ll likely find the problem that is plaguing you. Good luck. Have patience. You’ll find the solution. The AMD platform is a great platform for Cubase.

Not with memtest but I intend to first chance I get

The Motherboard came with ASUS Driver Hub and ASUS AI ADvisor. Everything is up to date. Very frustrating. Thank you

GPU is up to date but I need to check the USB devices because I am using 2 external drives and one is a few years old. Thank you

Hmmmm Thank you

Developer builds? Not familiar…sounds like another forests I may get lost in …ha !

I installed Armory Crate, ASUS DrioverHub, and ASUS AI Advisor. Everything is up to date. I disable all onboard audio in the bios per ASUS instructions, Expo I is activated for power as is Windows performance mode and all energy saving settings are disabled.

Onboard video is disabled Im using MSI NVidia 3060. Thanks!

I built it myself using Partspicker and shopped between Amazon and Newegg

Thank you. I’ve done some of this except the specific tests ( memtest and latency, etc) Although latency ( when it’s working isn’t an issue so far) unless latecny can quickly build and cause a crash. The crash dumps lists many different causes or at least what was happening at the time of crashing. Thank you

I would never do that.

Hmm, perhaps something in the built? Don’t get me wrong, this has nothing to do against your skills to put a PC together, but there are soooo many things that can go wrong when putting a PC together.

Those are two of the most important tests.

You can’t get to the bottom of things unless you actually eliminate what is AT THE BOTTOM of things as a potential issue. Do Memtest and Prime to rule out fundamental hardware issues… do it thoroughly and without cutting corners. Most problems I’ve experienced with builds over the years come from instabilities revealed by Memtest and Prime.

And by latency, I’m talking about DPC latency. Do this properly with Resplendence Software - LatencyMon: suitability checker for real-time audio and other tasks

Good luck!
