This would be an “automatic” measuring ruler
This would be very useful in two main use cases:
- The pacing/cadence of a project to fit to media, composing, etc.
- Finding timing inconsistencies in free-time performances/recordings and finding the main culprit and best correction path, the best references instrument, etc.
This ruler would be blank until one or two actions are performed:
- The user selects an event or group of events and then the ruler measures both from the start and end of that selection, as well as the space between events and or the spacing of splits.
- The user creates/enables a marker track and places markers/cycle markers.
The ruler shows events/markers as colour relative lines on the ruler, with the time between them measured in what the user defines (ms, 00:00, samples, frames etc)
The user can also click in drag in the ruler to manually draw a ruler length.
