New Shaper Modulator is nice, BUUUUT

This is obviously just one example of how to use this. My method is trying to modulate the filter on a drum machine pad snare. I discovered the MIDI input option for the Shaper Modulator…ok great. How do I get that MIDI INTO the shaper to trigger that filter shaper? The new manual is very vague. Well, it turns out it’s very clunky andy maybe someone can explain a better way.

The issue is if you try to put the shaper trigger on the same note/lane as the drum machine pattern lane you are trying to trigger the filter shaper for, it will cause the pattern lane to not trigger that note(or in this case, the snare). So you need to just grab an unused note/lane for your shaper trigger, and route the output of that note to the MIDI sidechain in of the shaper in a new or different drum map setup.

Kind of a side note…unlike other normal VST plugins, there is no modulator button on the drum machine…even when it’s a floating window. So you don’t get that visual overview of what modulators are being used on that device/plugin.

These new modulators are becoming a love hate relationship.

There you go. You have to use midi side chaining.
You can place a shared copy of the midi part onto the side-chaining track. This way any edit to one will be applied to the other as well.

Yeah, it’s completely stupid to require to have a copy of your MIDI on another track, to use it as a sidechain…

I found the development of Modulators in v15 puzzling - instead of fixing a glaring omission like this one, they added number of modules that no one really asked for. The LFO, Shaper, Step, Envelope Follower and Macro introduced in v14 easily covered 80-90% of the typical needs and remaining 10-20% could’ve been handled with user-defined functions (ModScripter).

Each day I regret I upgraded, but I’ve no one else to blame for it but myself… :frowning:

So far the only thing I’m finding useful is improvements to automation :+1:

Not sure if something changed in v15, but this is not triggering from MIDI inputs. The only way I can get that line to move is if I bypass it. No inputs are triggering it

Anyone proficient in modscripter have any idea?

Is there anyway to find the script for the Shaper and create a custom version of it?

The ModScripter still receives midi cc1 for its input parameter.
Create a midi track, route its output to ModScripter’s event input.

Shaper is a fixed modulator. There is no script available to us users.

Sorry, I should have started a new thread…I mean for live midi input, is that custom script able to process a live MIDI input?

You can route live input through the midi track to the ModScripter, yes.
