New System - seem ok?

Building out a new PC based Cubase/Pro Tools system and curious if anyone sees any issues or have any suggestions.

Question: ASUS X99 A-II for the motherboard or go for a more established ASUS X99-A/USB 3.1 or Sabertooth? Also 5820 vs 6000?

The system will mostly be used for media/app/game/interactive electronics composition, sound design and vo edit work, so lot’s of VST instruments and plugins in use.

Thanks!

Maybe it’s best to wait a little bit for the first buyer’s feedback. As with any new model, there’s always a risk.

Pete from Scan Pro Audio promised to update his DAW CPU benchmark chart in a week or so.

Yeah it seems like there are some heat issues with the 6800k and OC’ing (from review over at Tom’s Hardware)… so kinda 5820 @4 vs 6800 at 3.6 or so. Hmm… as for the motherboard, it’s probably fine it’s the CPU that’s the main wildcard.

Hi Guys, I’ve just build one with the Asus X99 A-II seems to run ok.
I’m coming from an x58 build so I can’t really compare toward newers systems.
These are my specs

bequiet 700watt 80plus
Asus X99 A-II

Are you going to overclock the 6800k? I’m super close to buying the cpu, everything else is on order. Just need to decide between 5820 and 6800… I know I could go 6850 but it seems a lot more money for not a lot of performance increase, unless I’m missing something?

Hi no I’m going to overclock as I only use 12% on projects that screamed at 90% cpu on the i7 920.
I’m using mainly a lot of VSTi synths VA and effects. Just did a small test running 100 retrologue2 instumenttracks on 32 sample buffers without any clicks just to say.

For me the CPU isn’t the bottleneck anymore…

Oh that’s awesome to hear! I wonder how many instances of Kontact it’ll run?
