No audio from cubase AI 9.5 if chrome browser is open and active

Quick question:
Last week I was able to play and hear my midi keyboard while I was reading the chords from a tab site in chrome. Chrome was the active window, cubase in background but I was still able to play and hear the audio from the plug-in.
Now, for some reason, if the browser is open and active with cubase in background, I get no sound when I play the midi keyboard. Only when cubase is in foreground and active window does the audio work.

Any idea why?

Certainly because “release ASIO driver when application is in the background” is activated in Cubase. Device setup somewhere.
