Audio recording is not functioning, there is just occasional unclear sound. I purchased this week new Steinberg UR22 mk II audio interface with the latest ASIO driver (V3.1.6) for the recordings but it did not fix the problem. I thought the problem was my old interfaces (iRig Pro, Behringer Xenyx 302). Tested now with three different USB audio interfaces. All the interfaces are working perfectly and are recording with Garage Band and AmpliTube 5. Output audio from earlier recordings are working perfectly as all the VST instruments.
Installed again latest update 13.0.20. Didn’t fix the problem.
V3.1.6 is the latest driver for Steinberg UR22 mkII for Mac from Steinberg/support
Yes, the interface is working perfectly on other DAWs (Garage Band, Amplitube5).
No, none of them are able to record audio in Cubase.
I have been using Cubase as DAW since version 3. Never had issues like this before.
On your mac, on the upper right part of the screen, IS there a microphone symbol inside an orange-ish circle…??? if not, you have not given your program permission to use the computer’s microphone. That needs to be enabled. That was giving me fits.
Yes there IS.
The driver also needs changes to MacOS security policy, “to allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers”, and permission in the Security Preferences to allow developer system software to load.
Yes, USB driver installation procedure begins with booting in recovery mode, then in MacOS Recovery selecting the install volume and account, after password in the top menu selecting Utilities>Startup Security Utility, then selecting the system where to install the driver, then in Security Policy choosing Reduced Security and checking the option to allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers, then after password restarting Mac.
Then you’re able to install the driver.
When installation is finished there is a message “System expansion blocked” where you have to select “Open Security Preferences” and then, allowing system software from developer “Yamaha Corporation” to be loaded.
Then, a restart is required.
After restart Security and Privacy window will be brought up again.
The installation of the driver is now completed.
I made a ticket about this problem in Steinberg support. It took almost three weeks before I got the answer
They asked me to:
download latest drivers and firmware for audio interface (all up to date)
to check if the microphone is accessible for Steinberg/Cubase in MacOs (yup)
to reset Cubase preferences in the library folder (which I did)
The problem was still existing. I send them the answer, nothing worked (with a bunch of screenshots).
New answer came the next day. They asked me to read the article:
Sorry, but I have been using Cubase for more than 20 years. I know how to setup an audio interface.
Then I made a test.
I created a new file in Cubase 13 from Cubase apps basic setup “el guitar recording”, checked everything again and set up all as they should be. The result is still the same.
Then I created similar new file in Cubase 12 with all the setting the same. All works perfectly. No problems.
I think this is an evidence that the problem lies inside Cubase 13.
We tried to solve the problem with Steinberg support member for several days including online session where they had their hands on my computer. No solution. They said they’re working on it and that it is strange and weird problem.
Not happy with the way Steinberg handled the problem.
I asked the refund from upgrade price, which I got within a couple of days.
Deleted Cubase 13 pro from my computer. Now old 12 Pro is having similar problems.
Time to move on to another DAW.
This saved my life!
I bought a new Mac Mini M2 Pro and after 2 weeks of instaling software and plugins I tried to record audio. I was sure that everything is ok, so I tried on a recording session After 15 minutes of horror, I had to switsh back to the good old Mac Pro 5.1 and record the artist.
After a whole day reading all of the forums, I was desperate and almost made the decision to start recording in Logic.
Than I found this video and boooom! IT WORKS!
