This may have come up before but I can’t find the right search term. Dorico (currently on 3.5) has some excellent breath marks to add.
However I want to add a “no breath” mark - this is normally done with a little mini slur between two words in the lyrics, or over the top of a stave. It’s distinct from a slur - I don’t want to show a slur across the whole passage as it will be (a) ugly, and (b) non-idiomatic.
It is the sort of thing often seen in hymns/carols.
Does this make sense? And if so, any suggestions on how best to achieve?
Good knowledge (and useful to have), but in this circumstance nearly, but not quite. They’re a bit small because they’re more for eliding (hence the name ) between text that is naturally close together, but because it binds onto the lyric in front, it looks a little odd if there is a gap, e.g.
As a singer I’d expect something more like one of these two (the top being the same position as a breath mark, which is why I started there when looking for the functionality):
How I’ve done this for myself is to create a custom playing technique that uses a graphic of a nicely-shaped slur that I set up in a Dorico project, then exported as a graphic using a graphic slice.
You can then input the custom playing technique and position it in Engrave mode as needed.
