No Midi Signal When Using Halion Sonic & Groove Agent SE 5 Inside Cubase LE AI Elements 13

Hi there everyone.

I have Cubase Elements LE AI Elements 13.

Let explain my main problem:

When I open Groove Agent or Halion Sonic by creating an instrument track in Cubase both plugins are not picking up any MIDI input, so I cant use my Rolland fp30x 88 note keyboard to record stuff.

Additional Info:

Both Plugins work fine with my keyboard when I use them outside of Cubase.

When both plugins are opened in Cubase I can successfully generate sounds by using my mouse to play the virtual keyboard. However Cubase does not record these sounds at all. ???

Would someone please be able to help me with this ?

Kind Regards
Ben

Can you post a screenshot of Studio>Studio Setup>MIDI Port Setup and also the Routing section of the Inspector for the Instrument Track.

I wonder If its because Im using Cubase Elements and not the pro version?

Try Enabling the Monitor Button on the Track. It controls whether the Track is listening to the MIDI Input or not.

Nah, no luck with that unfortunately.

Try setting the MIDI Channel on the Track to “Any” - right now it is only listening to Ch. 1 from your controller. (FYI the behavior of this setting changed between Cubase 12 & 13. The OP is using C13, so this only applies there.)

None the less, even with everything properly configured you need to have the Monitor Enabled for the Track to receive MIDI from your controller. If it is Disabled you will never hear anything when you play your controller - it is the on/off button for listening to a Track’s Input.

I tried your solution, but its still not working, thanks very much for your help.

Try this.

  1. Create a new empty Project
  2. Add a MIDI Track
  3. Set the MIDI Input of this track to your Roland controller
  4. Enable the Track’s Input Monitor
  5. Make sure the Track’s Channel is set to Any
  6. On the Track’s MIDI Inserts load a MIDI Monitor
  7. Now when you play your Roland do you see MIDI Data in the Monitor? If so screengrab and post it here
