No playback audio in cubase 14

Hi. Hopefully someone can help. I have suffered with this issue since upgrading to cubase 13. My studio has sat dormant since that point and I have now upgraded to cubase 14, but I still have no playback sound. I am unable to change the output status. Please see the attached image. The mouse pointer is over the words “no target”, however, I cannot select a target. The drop down arrow does nothing. If I export the project as mp3, I can listen to it, but I have no playback through cubase. Any help gratefully received. I use a Behringer UMC 1820 with a Behringer ultragain digital linked together to give me 16 input tracks. Have updated the drivers today, but still no sound. Thank you in advance.

Do you have outputs set up in audio connections?

Sounds like a problem in Audio Connections.

What do you see in that dialog?

Hi Grim. Thanks for the response. Yes, I have set up input and output connections. I have literally spent hours and hours going through settings/youtube tutorials and help guides, but am totally baffled.

Hi Steve.

See my response to Grim above. In and out busses are set, but cannot get sound to play. Just noticed, it’s now affecting input too! Channel displays activity in cubase when I press a key on a synth/keyboard, but I’m getting zero audio. It’s really cooking my brain!

Me and Grim posted near simultaneously…

Hm… isn’t it the case the Behringer UMC 182 doesn’t have its own ASIO driver?

Maybe you have to set up the outputs in the driver you are using, (Steinberg Generic, ASIO4ALL etc)

Why are you outputting stereo to “outs”, “ALL OUT!” and another 7 mono outputs…all to “out 1” which is a single physical port?

For troubleshooting, if you create a group track in the project does that show up in the drop down where it says no target?

From what I can see in the studio settings, it seems to have its own driver. I will switch to the Steinberg driver and see what happens. Thank you.

The UMC driver you have selected is the correct one to use….but certainly worth trying the built in to see if the issue is driver related.

I tried built in drivers, but with no success. What I can’t understand, is how I can listen to MP3 playback through the same computer/speakers, but it won’t play back in Cubase.

Have just deselected all outputs except for left and right, but still nothing. Adding a group track, does give me the option to select a bus/target. Do you have any other suggestions at all?

With only the one stereo out in audio connections, start a new project and add a track…..does it have a target?

In the last screen shot you have the audio muted.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. In the end, I uninstalled the audio interface drivers. Uninstalled Cubase 14 and reinstalled everything. It now works as it should. Very confusing to be honest, but all is good now. Thanks again.
