Problem:
I used Cubase 12 on a Mac Pro without issues. I have since migrated to a MacBook Pro and upgraded to Cubase 13 Pro and was unable to get any sound from Cubase, both on the internal speakers nor through the TV speakers via HDMI connected to it.
The MacBook Pro was temporary and I have now migrated to an iMac which will be my permanent workstation. I still get no sound from Cubase though. Not through the internal speakers, nor through headphones connected to it.
Other applications such as Synth V, VLC, Quicktime, facetime, etc all have no issues and output through internal speakers or headphones fine. Just not Cubase.
Troubleshooting:
I have tried several suggestions online as people have mentioned problems with switching between built-in speakers and headphones but that yielded non results. I think because built-in speakers are not working I should get that working first before I start introducing headphones to the mix.
Cubase 12, same issue (on the iMac)
Cubase 11 locks up the whole system.
The goal:
Get Cubase to output through internal speakers. Please help me track down the issue.
Make sure Cubase has enabled Mic in the System Preferences, please.
Open macOS System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Microphone. Enable Cubase 12 and Cubase 13 here.
Hi Martin,
Yes the audio driver is set to built-in audio.
I have a twist; I’ve opened a brand new project and dropped some random audio in there and hit play. Sound came out of my speakers!
So Cubase 13 can do it. But loading any of my existing projects, no audio when I hit play. Not from audio, midi or anything.
Are there project specific preferences hidden somewhere I should be looking at?
Meters audio tracks okay, no meter on Master . Groups no meters, mixbus no meter.
Creating a new project Empty, drop some audio in it and everything works fine.
Sorry Martin, we are venturing into areas of Cubase that I have rarely used, or never used at all. Could you please direct me to where I need to go/click to get the info you’re requesting? Here is the same screenshot as above but with the track running:
Could you please hide some tracks, which are not relevant. And then could you please extend the Channels width by using the H Key Command, so we can see the names of the Routing?
I’m sorry, I still don’t see any track with the whole path chain. The only track with the visible signal is Rides, which is routed to the Drums group. But we don’t see the Drums channel.
I would like to see the whole chain of one signal to know, where the signal still is and where is not anymore.
