No sound playing dragged GA pattern but indiv notes soiund

Hi, In Pro 14 with Windows 11PC and UR824 interface which also connects to my speakers. I create a GA5 instrument track , open GA and in the pattern tab drag a pattern from the actual pad to the instrument track then play it in the track - no sound. If i open the midi editor and mouse click one of the patterns midi notes or click a note on the edit window virtual keyboard they sound. Activating the Use Midi pattern port for patterns button made no difference. I attach a screen shot.

Please can anyone advise. Thanks, Simon

Might want to check your routing and the outputs for the GA track. It looks like you’re routing the track to a guitar group–is that muted?

Hi X thanks but changing that to drum group doesn’t make any difference (my sloppy setup). All the groups are unmuted. I can’t see how the output from a midi sequence playing would differ to the output when a single note in that sequence is played via the editor.

I’m not sure what’s going on. I usually use Rack Instruments and regular MIDI tracks, but I tried to recreate what you’re doing, and it worked.

One thing I noticed is that in my Inspector it has the kit name in the Program Selector (right above Drum Map). In yours it’s not set–still showing Program Selector. Maybe you should try creating a new Track Instument (routed to Stereo Out just for now, just to be on the safe side) and see if you get something more like what I’m seeing.

thanks X. See what you mean about the program selector but I’ve never had to use that. I will try the direct stereo out when it next happens. I forgot to say it is intermittent. Sometimes midi dragged to the Instrument track works other times it’s silent. Usually the output meter to the right of the track name shows activity just no sound. Sometimes happens with Halion Sonic. Often it can be got around by setting an associated midi track and dragging the midi part down to there. I think logging out and in has corrected too. Wastes so much of my time. I’m using a Steinberg UR8234 interface with windows 11 pc.

I’ve never used it either–not manually. It apparently gets populated automatically when you use the Preset Management selector at the top. Maybe it’s got nothing do with the issue though…

Do you have Direct Routing visible in your Inspector?

Enable it, and next time you have the issue, see if your output is disabled and looks like this:

thanks. I currently have direct out set to be say drum group , guitar group etc which then feeds the ‘Main Mix’ (last strip in mixer). The odd thing is that this issue is sporadic. Currently in that project if I put a midi sequence file on a GA5 instrument track it now plays the relevant notes (I’m using GA in instrument not pattern mode). In the past I’ve been able to get around it by creating an associated midi track and dragging the midi sequence to that. I think I may even have got it to work w while back by closing and reopening the project (my memory is sketchy!). I have had it with Halion Sonic too. The notes record but no sound on playback despite it being unmuted and unmonitored.

When it happens again I’ll gather more information.
