Hi there, Dorico Team and friends! Since yesterday night I have been experiencing pretty much the same issue out of the blue. I’ve already tried everything. I’ve changed the playback template to Silence and then back to Noteperformer 3. I’ve also checked my output is designated correctly and that no instruments are muted in the mixer. I’ve double checked to see if this happens with other Dorico projects and none of them playback. I’ve also created a new document from scratch to see if that worked—still nothing. I’ve rebooted my computer, too. I’m really not sure what else I can try… I would appreciate your help.
I’ve attached a the Diagnostic Report as well as a screenshot of my Device Setup, which looks funky because it won’t let me choose any outputs (the dropdown menu is empty). I’ve checked my System settings for Sound in my Mac and they look fine, though. I’m perfectly able to reproduce sound from other applications.
On a slightly related topic, I have also found that Dorico will not playback at times until I plug in some headphones. Then, when I plug them out it works again. I’ve tried doing that here, but have had no success.
Click on “Device Control Panel” and make sure that “Headphones” and/or “Speakers” is selected. Also, check Automaticaly Configure Devices. I think this solves the problem.
This is a weird case. According to the logs, when you start up, at first Dorico does not recognize any output port, but later it does, so consequently I would also expect sound at some stage. Please try again and see if you can find some kind of pattern. Thanks, Ulf
This had never happened to me. I followed @lucas_r_r 's suggestion and that solved it though. For some reason the output in the Core Audio Device Settings was unchecked. Weird… At least I know to check there if it ever happens again.
What has happened before is that after I close a Dorico session where I’ve been using wired headphones and then open Dorico back up having disconnected the headphones it won’t playback any audio. When I connect the headphones again it sort of works. At that point I can disconnect the headphones and it’ll still produce sound through the speakers.
I don’t know why this happens but I started noticing weird behaviors since I switched to a new MacBook Pro. It seems like phones and speakers are disengaged somehow. Whereas in my last MacBook I never heard anything through the speakers with the phones plugged in, and viceversa, this is not the case anymore. I don’t know if it has to do with the hardware or with Monterey, although I suspect it’s the former.
Hi @lucas_r_r , yes, for some time already on Mac the headphones and speakers are separate devices now, and plugging in the headphones does not necessarily mean, that automatically the output will switch from speaker to headphones. The idea behind that is, that one app can play out via speakers and another one use the headphones to play out.
Go to Edit > Device Setup and in there press the Device Control Panel button. In the control panel then tick the option Automatically configure device and Dorico will try to do the automatic switching between speakers and phones.
I’ve had the same issue last 3 days where I got no sounds, the solution is in front of me, following @lucas_r_r advice, from Device Control Panel, I should check the output as “MacBook Pro Speakers”, this one was unchecked somehow, I don’t know… but now everything works fine! Many thanks.
Hello, I notice that some instruments (saxophone and piano) give no sound in play back. I tried every solution above but nothing works. Is there something else I can try?
@theijsdezeeuw , if it is only a specific project with that problem, then could you please post it here or send directly to u dot stoermer at steinberg dot de
I guarantee full confidentiality.
Thanks
Hi @theijsdezeeuw , thanks a lot.
But when I load your project it does sound, straight away.
So that leads me to the assumption that it must be something on the audio driver or audio interface.
If you go to Edit > Device Setup, what ASIO driver and what sample rate are shown there?
