Non-semantic ties?

I don’t understand why Dorico allows impossible ties like the following:

[dspreadbury]

It is often required, e.g. when writing for piano or harp, to have ties between non-adjacent notes, for example in this kind of arpeggiated figure:

[Lillie_Harris]
