Not having to go into engraving for reciting tones

Hi, this is a simple question for writing out anglican chant for my choir. For reciting tones and in general, how do I best avoid the problem seen with “Then I called upon the” without having to manually fix it in engraving mode every time? Thank you

You’re using a “piano” grand staff, I’d guess. Change it to a “Choir (Reduction)” instrument in Setup mode, and you’ll get a grad staff instrument without barlines between the staves, which is correct for vocal music:

Hi Dan,

Certainly, I changed it but was mainly asking (apologies for the ambiguity) if there is any change to settings or something I am missing so that “then I called upon the” is all in the first measure without having to fix it in engraving mode every time.

Here is what I have and the other image is what I would like to do, ideally without going in for every reciting tone. Thank you

Here is what I am going for that I saw another choral director use (minus the barline they created)

@Gabriel_J
could you please upload your .dorico file here? You will get and explanation and a solution almost instantly.
(Otherwise a lot of people will have to start guessing this and that).

I deal with this a lot, and it’s very straightforward.

There’s no good way around some manual adjustment, but it’s quite easy. Switch to the Note Spacing tool and select the handle at the barline, and press Ctrl-Alt-Right Arrow a few times.

Of course you could make it a lot easier by not using barlines mid-phrase …

Thank you Dan, much appreciated. Certainly figured you would know a thing about AC in Dorico after I saw your new Anglican hymnal

It’s anglican chant, just written out instead of pointed

Thank you for the tip, will do next time I use the forum
