Trying to get the default notation for a quarter followed by a dotted-half to show up that way (without using a tied half to a quarter). Notation options have been set correctly, though is having no affect on the notation in the score.

Ok, I did find the correct one in the end, labelled “Notes starting after the start of the bar with multiple beats in duration” . . . but still, whatever behavior is being affected by “Notation of short-dotted long patterns” remains a mystery to me.
I believe you have to have both of these set. I’m not sure what the rules are that govern their interaction.

Yup, you are correct. The upper picture, right side, ended up being the correct one I needed.
