Note Performer Voice Vibrato

I’m running Dorico 5, and just today finally purchased Noteperformer.

I love it except for one thing: There’s way too much vibrato in the choral voice sounds, no matter what the dynamic level, but especially at mf or above. I don’t want to mark those parts ‘non vibrato,’ because I do want some. But about 90% less that there is now! (It’s not a problem in Halion, but I do like the tone quality of the NP sounds better, except for that one issue.)

Suggestions?

There’s a MIDI CC in NotePerformer that controls vibrato if I recall correctly. You should be able to set that CC to get an exact vibrato amount. You might need to check the documentation for the CC number that is used.

If you want to change vibrato just for choral sounds and not affect anything else, make a copy of the NP expression map (rename it NP Choir) and tell your choral instruments to use it instead of the usual NP map.

From the NP website:

In cases like this (also, for example, when writing for viols), I place a hidden ‘non vib.’ playing technique at the beginning.

I do this all the time for voices and strings especially. For me it’s much easier than digging into midi settings etc.
